RASF1 Japan - ARGH!

I am *so* tired of this shit...  I'm cursed in this game.  Start of the race -
I switch to the server to get rid of its car.  When the flag drops I hear
"You've been given a stop-and-go penalty for jumping the start."  How?!?  I
wasn't even in the ***ing CAR, let alone moving!
So I'm driving around first lap, pissed at that, trying to figure out why.  Get
to the chicane, blow my brake point(trying to see where Pit In is), and spin.
I got high-sided on the curb.  Tried for about 30 seconds to free the car, then
said *** it.
I give up with this damn thing...

Is there an updated chicane for Japan?

I'm sorry Neil:

I knocked over a glass of water at the start, that
distracted me, and you hit me.  My mistake.

If you look at the start Eldred, the Toyota does roll
early.  I waited for you on the start finish line while
you were hung up on the curb.

???? I've seen reference to a 'server's car' ... what is it? The car the
host drives?

I watched the replay and for some reason the server car rolled forward and
pushed you over the starting grid marks. That is just stupid luck cuz I
don't recall having to hold the brake to keep from rolling forward... and
didn't see anyone else rolling either.

Now speaking of replay, HAQSAU, it's always good to have a look at it before
you accuse someone of ***ing up your race. If you were paying attention you
would know there were two Saubers in the race and the one that was involved
with you was not me. Regardless of who it was, your reaction was not called
for... shit happens - watch the replay. I really thought you had a little
more class than that.

We have a small core group of talented GP sim racers keeping RASF1 alive,
and if you want to see it die quickly, keep pissing people off like you did
to me today.

Eldred's host machine(I think!) is a University of Michigan server...he
has to start that, then join his own race with his personal box.  When the
race starts, he has to move the servercar out of the way and then jump back
into his racing machine..

Eldred, the Suzuka s/f straight is slightly down hill I think.  When you
exited your car, it may have rolled from the gradient.  Try keeping your
foot mashed on the brake whilst moving the server car...not sure how easy
that is...but....
I almost got in to the race but my box fan wasn't turned up yet...so I
got a heat lockup just before the chat window was available.  F1rst2 would
let me back into the RAS room, but nothing happened when I hit connect...oh
well..I did get some time then to run practice laps for the Bullrun 1000
and knocked two seconds off my PB.  going faster there than ever thanks to
the TA physics.

Well perhaps I owe you an apology however this is not just a case of "shit
happens".  I got punted over a wall and clean out of the map, I was hovering
in space and there was no possible way to continue.  In the meantime the guy
that hit me went on like nothing happened to him.  I don't care that it
wasn't intentional, it's still bullshit.  And as far as whether I have class
or not, if having class means I'm not entitled to the same emotions anyone
else would have in that situation, then stuff class.

Now who's overreacting?  Take a ride in my car before you judge me.

Yes, that was me who hit you. Very sorry. I hit the curb comming in the turn
and my car liften from the ground. Tires not touching the asphalt at 200+mph
means flying into the wall pretty much. You just happened to be between me
and the wall.

What was I supposed to do? Join you in space? Since there's no on-track chat
I wasn't able to say sorry, and since I looked in my mirror and saw no signs
of you I drove off.

If it makes you feel any better, later in the race my brake pedal on my
controller failed. I had to retire.

Congrats to Hasqau for the win, and sorry I had to bail out.

Correct.

Ack!  It figures.  Yeah, I could have held the brake if I'd known...  Even Spa
in GPL doesn't have that problem, and that s/f straight is *much* steeper.
Grrr...

I wasn't in the Toyota - that was the server car.  I was in the Williams.  The
thing wasn't even in gear, so how could I move early?  This game just hates
me...

The *server* car knocked me over the line?!?  Like I said - I'm cursed.

No Josh, the point was I got taken out and you suffered no damage at all.  I
don't know whether it was warp or whether Eldred turned damage off, but
either way I don't like it.  This has been happening in every race now, and
I'm not pointing the finger at you specifically, I'm just saying that in
every race I have participated in there has been at least one incident like
this where two guys collided but only one got taken out.  It's very
discouraging.

Haqsa

RASF1 Japan - ARGH!

by Haqsa » Tue, 14 Oct 2003 06:02:03

The difference in this case was Josh was spinning before he hit me, plus he
hit the wall himself and rolled several times, so clearly the server knew he
was part of the incident, yet he suffered no apparent damage.  Come to think
of it, my car did not fly apart, it got punted cleanly over the wall in one
piece.  Was invulnerability on?  I practice with it on under the assumption
that the server will turn it off, but it appears that in this case the
server did not turn it off.  Come to think of it I had some offs during
practice that did not result in any damage either.  I know there was some
talk about this.  I think this incident is a good example of why
invulnerability should *not* be on.  Reducing damage is fine, but in the
interest of fairness and realism there needs to be some damage to everyone
involved in a wreck.  I know we don't have any intentional wreckers, but I
see people taking a lot of unnecessary risks in every race.  Having
unrealistic aids, including invulnerability, turned off is the only way to
get people to race in a realistic manner.  If I'm the only one who feels
this way fine, I will learn to live with it, but I thought other people
wanted this to be realistic also.

Oh. Yeah, I turned on the invulnerability aid at the start since i noticed
that it was allowed by the server. If I didn't have that turned on I would
have obliterated my car against the wall since it was a very hard hit. That
explains my driving off while you floated in space. I assumed everyone else
was running that aid... maybe I assumed wrong. Again... sorry for hitting
you. I wasn't driving overly aggresive even though i had invuln on, just
made the mistake of hitting those darn high curbs and losing control.
