Forced Hawaii Downloads

Can anyone explain why, whenever I connect to Hawaii, I am forced to download
hawaii.zip and multi136.zip even when I just downloaded and unzipped them an
hour before?
The answers I get from papy.com indicate that their system is flawless and I
must be doing something wrong. This has not been helpful.
Can someone clear this up for me? I realize that beta-testing involves many
upgrades, but I'm really not interested in making AT&T richer with 11+ minutes
of long-distance charges each time I connect.
Anybody got any ideas?

There was apparently a problem with the time/date stamp on one of the
files. I think Papy was supposed to disable some of the validation
procedures. Have you tried it in the last couple of days?

Make sure you don't delete the zip files after unzipping them (even
though they aren't needed). If the zip files don't exist in the \Nascar
directory Hawaii will send them again.

Bob - we're still trying to figure this one out, but best guess at this
point is that if you have a SET TZ=..... statement on your system, either
PKUNZIP is altering the datestamp on files which it unzips, or our version
checking datestamp routines do so.

Apparently this has been happening to some people for months, but nobody
had described the problem well enough (probably because it didn't stop them
dead in their tracks, but was just a nuisance) until we enabled a forced
version check on MULTI.EXE last week which didn't let people proceed past
the message of the day screen unless they had the "correct" version of
MULTI.EXE installed.

If you're getting a forced download of MULTI136.ZIP each time you run even
though you're sure you have the correct version of MULTI.EXE installed, you
can press ESCAPE key when the download starts and abort it.

We'll be testing next week to see if the SET TZ statement is the problem;
if so, next revision will include a fix.
