Has anyone in the UK  patched a budget copy of GPL up to
ver 1.2? If so, could you tell me how you did it please?

I bought GPL on the budget "Sierra Originals" label here in
the UK.

Ver 1.0.0.0 installs of the CD.

I have attempted to patch to v1.2 using  gpl12_uk downloaded
from www.papy.com - this patch has the effect of making the
game believe I no longer have the CD in the drive (when I do)

I tried the gpl12_us file instead, but (quite correctly) it stops
the patch explaining that a US version of gpl is not present.

At this point, unless any of you gpl-monsters can tell me whats
up I'm tempted to give up on getting  FF in GPL.

I have exactly the same version (UK Sierra Originals GPL).  I patched it
fine, perhaps try the one on http://www.thenorwaypits.com or get the nocd
patch from http://www.gamecopyworld.com

It is the best game ever, and well worth while getting working.

The next step is to get onto vroc where everyone can explain to you how to
get things working if there is a problem
Download WInvroc from http://www.vroc.net and remember to get the "vroc fix"
(which consists of a vroc.ini file that you put into the directory which you
installed vroc).

Sorry if that is a garbled mess but my cold is hindering me and making me
talk rubbish :)

I had some trouble with this too but then decided to look on the cd
and found tha patch in a directory imaginately called patch. It's
especially for this version of gpl also there are 2 pdf files one is
the manual and one talking about 4 wheel drift.

Nup, its definitely the UK version as I am pretty sure I upgraded to 1.2
using a UK patch.

| I'm sure the CD of the budget version is identical to the full game.
| There's a problem which can occur with the UK 1.2 patch where only half
the
| files unzip because they won't overwrite some read-only files in the GPL
| directory.  The solution is to install the UK 1.1 patch first, and then
1.2.
