Old N2 Engine

I have been reading this newsgroup for quite awhile, I don't respond much
because it seems there are more then enough "experts" in the group.  That is
not a slam to anyone, there are a lot of you who know your stuff.

<Begin Patton's Theme>

But I am tired of everyone voicing there opinions on which game is best and so
forth.  For all of you check the title of this newsgroup, its not specific to
one genre of auto racing.  Since I don't have all day to read this newsgroup it
would be nice to have answers instead of personal opinions added to each
thread.

Now with regards to this old N2 engine deal.  I recall reading that someone
actually played the N3 GPL engine game and said it was slow.  Remember there is
a difference between a 60's open wheel car and a 1999 Stockcar, hence the N2
engine upgrade.  Papy is trying to give us the best NASCAR game that they can,
and updates to this old engine have occurred almost yearly.  If i'm not
mistaken we are all greatful for just about everything they have done and are
about to do to this old N2 engine; double file restarts, trucks, better and
better AI, etc.  Given these could all be patches, but you must remember Papy
is a business that needs to make money just like any other business.  No one
complains about EA Sports making a yearly upgrade to their sports line and
charging the same $45 per game.  So if any of you can do better, step up to the
door at Papy and give them the answers they need and quit being an armchair
"computer expert."

Ok, open to all comments.

I happen to agree. No one is being forced to buy N3. Personally, I've never
disliked anything Papy has released and have always felt it was worth my
$$$.

O.K., Tom here are a few comments. First off, the purpose of this
newsgroup is not to provide messages that are tailored to what
*you* want. It is a worldwide discussion group, about racing sims.
As a discussion group, there are opinions on which and what is
better and lots of other things.

It is called free speech, Tom.

I'm sorry you don't 'have all day' to read what is here, but to suggest
that people should just post 'answers', and not 'personal opinions' is a
little bit ludicrous, don't you think?

Ed, I think he makes a fair point about the "unnecessary" opinions.
Sometimes a guy asks a straight forward questions like "where's a good price
for a Voodoo 3" (just an example, not necessarily a question aimed at this
new group) and what follows is grammar/spell checkers, sarcastic comments as
to why he would buy a card that doesn't support 32-bit graphics, or some
other waste of space that isn't a direct answer.  Yes, I want the debates in
threads that inspire debate.  However, if I ask where I can buy Toca 2 in
the U.S. do I really need 4 nimrods commenting that Toca2 sucks and I should
just buy SCGT?

the physics engine in a game models cars based on car details that are fed
into it.  The GPL engine can model any car, just enter its details, and itll
give a very good representation of that car (David Kaemmer said that he
could place his own car details into if and it would drive correctly).  So
inputing NASCAR details into the GPL engine would give you an accurate
nascar to play around with

The N2engine isnt as advanced.  It doesnt model as many things as the GPL
engine.  It doesnt model them as frequently, and most of all, it doesnt feel
as real as the GPL modeled cars.

Thats not to say N3 wont be good, it might be, i havent played it yet
(monday with any luck, and im playing GP3 as well...)

Only 4?  Are we shorthanded on nimrods these days?  If so, let me know and
I'll send some over from the R.A.S.I. newsgroup . . . <G>

But that's the true love of the Usenet. It's what I call controlled chaos.
It's a very bizarre and unique psychology structure, and has some pretty
weird effect on sociological opinions of people.  This newsgroup always had
a tradition of rating games vs other games, comparing weak and strong points
about each.  This will probably never change, so people who are not ok with
this will have to accept or just try to find another place, which doesn't
exist.

Somehow, we all know as a fact that Toca 2 sucks and you should just buy
SCGT ;-D

ECTS probably has N3 in demonstration there, and we all know that GP3 is
being shown there.  We are all awaiting the big news about how it is.  It's
been a BIG wait ;-)
