If you do not disable it at Monaco and Mexico, you cannot get round the
hairpins unless you use a steering ration of 9:1 or 10:1or lower.

Hmm...I'll have to check my setups.  I can get around the hairpins just fine.
Not fast, but...<g>  And I don't have the steering disabled...

This is backwards. You need the hack enabled: steer_ratio = 1
to automatically tighten you turning radius for the really tight hairpins.
The problem is that it makes your steering inconsistant. I find the Nurburgring
in particular much nicer with the hack off: steer_ratio=0

Ok, that's what was confusing.  Based on Paul's message, I thought you had to
DISable it to get through the hairpins - which didn't make sense to me...
Maybe I'll disable it and try Monza again.  If having the hack active messes up
straight-line steering, that may be one of my problems...

From the 1.1 read.me

By default, GPL uses a speed-sensitive steering ratio.  At and above
60MPH, the steering ratio specified by your car setup is used.  Below
that speed, your the steering ratio will be set to somewhere between
7:1 and the ratio defined by your car setup.  GPL does this to make
it possible to exit your pit stall when pit road is crowded, and to
make navigating hairpin turns easier.  You can disable this feature
by adding the following two lines to core.ini

[ Hack ]
steer_ratio = 0       ;

So, watch a replay of yourself at any given track. When ever your
speed falls below 60mph you can expect it to kick in. If you never
get below 60mph at that track it can be ignored. On tracks that have
turns below 60mph where you don't actually need the hack to get
around them, then your better off having the hack off. There are
probably only about four turns in the entire game that really require
the hack. Could be more with all the add on tracks now. What we
really need is the ability to set it on or off in the car setup page
for each track.

Heya Eldred

The steering hack only goes into affect i think below 70 mph.  To
clarify that with it enabled at speeds less than 70, the steering will
speed up to facilitate turnin.  At Monza u shouldn't drop below 70 mph
anywhere, tho parabolica u may be hovering around 70 mph.

Oh yeah BTW  I am back and ready to move up that standings list in TCC
if yer ready

I added the hack a long time ago.  It seemed i was losing the ability
to steer when sliding so i tried it to see if it helped.  It seemed
like it did and i have been running with it ever since.  It seemed to
make it much easier to recover from a spin by reducing the tendancy to
overcorrect.  It also seemed to make the car (lotus) just "feel"
better.  I suppose i should go back and try without it now to see if it
makes a difference in my lap times (which are not noteworthy).  I dont
lose the car as often now anyway.
