real disappointment. How good though is F12000? (for reference I am about to
buy a Athelon 900 with GForce2 card and 256mb ram).
Thanks for any advice

You have to practise F1 2000 a lot. Then you gonna like it more and more.
And dare to tell you, that if you had played GP3 longer, you would like it
also more and more. Both games has good and bad point.
Ofcourse F1 2000 is a bit better in general, but give games a chance...!!

This is my take... Mind you I don't have either GP3 or GPL.
*Graphics is so-so, and very demanding on the hardware. With your
prospect setup you *should* maybe get good framrates during racing. I
don't really know, 'cause I don't have nearly that kind of hardware...
:) But personally I only do hotlapping anyway, so I get away with
1024x768 on a TNT1.
*Physics is tops, at least IMO. Every setup change counts, and I feel
weight shifts and stuff. GP2 never were this good.
*Track accuracy is pretty poor. I haven't inspected every track in
every detail, but on average it doesn't look so good in that
department.
*Races are pretty much impossible, IMHO, even after v1.06. The AI
keeps a completely different pace than me, and cheats a lot. Even if
the AI and I keep doing the same laptimes, the pace on different track
segments are way out of sync. I keep rear-ending cars when they brake
before flat-out turns or they rear-end me.
If you're that picky that you returned GP3, I'd say don't get F1-2k.
I think it's good hotlapping fun, and I don't regret getting it, but
if you're out for a complete game maybe it's better to wait for
F1-2001...

So in my opinion (i will never say F1 2000 is perfect) the best modern f1
sim for the moment is F1 2000. Gp3 is a good second. And GPL cannot be
compared with those two, cause its another genre.
I will not give an advice like, wait for 2001 or better wait for 2010. Cause
thats too easy. I assume the guy wants to play now.....

Lorne
Uses and likes both GP3 and F1-2K but is hoping for more from future
F1 sim`s.

I wasn't talking about realism. The realism is good enough. The whole
game experience of F1-2k isn't. It feels very rough around the edges,
and I think it was rushed out the door. If he gets F1-2k just because
it's the last possible choice he *will* be dissappointed.

I think the tracks in GP3 are fantastic and hope some GP2-goeroes will be able
to bring them up-to-date with the current season (same goes for the drivers).
I think the fact that we have variable weather in GP3 just adds to the
gameplay: You really have to be strategic. This feature compensates a lot of
missing 'features' (LAN-racing, absence of other car's sounds, .....).
I read a lot of complaints about 'canned spins' in GP3. Could somebody explain
these please to me? I notice I can save a lot of to-be-spins simply by applying
the same techniques used in GPL! I think people who rant about this 'canned'
effect simply overcook their curve entry speed and loose the car.
So PJ: If you want the 'most accurate sim avaialble today': GPL - it's superior
in a lot of categories (LAN, FF, performance, physics).
If you want the best modern F1 sim: GP3
Jan.
You can expect GP3 graphics/damage-level/
carshape/sounds/AI-perforance being patched very very soon. And with
a bit of luck new tracks too. In fact, if THAT works then just about
all existing GP2 tracks will be convertable, too! Sound like good
arguments to buy GP3 if some of these aspects disappointed.
