N4 - What the heck is the "Wrecking Crew" ???

by Larr » Tue, 19 Jun 2001 02:59:37

I just witnessed the most bizarre individual I've ever had the displeasure
of meeting in Online Racing.

The server was the Papyrus 3  4-10 server.

The bonehead's name was "chevy HO".

I kid you not folks.  This guy was around for at least 5 races, and his #1
goal was to hit EVERY SINGLE CAR on the track, bar none.

Unfortunately, he was quite sucessful.  The only time he wasn't out causing
havoc was when we got lucky and he ended up on his roof.

I have 3 of the most incredible replays of this numb-nuts you've ever seen.

Is there an official entity within Sierra/Papy to report this kind of thing
to?

He kept bragging that he was part of some "Wrecking Crew".  What the hell is
this?

Does anyone have ejection rights on Papy servers?  If not, then Papy should
enlist a team of known-good racers to enpower with ejection rights for
things like this...

No, when this happens just quit the server.  If you stay, then it's your
problem as you on purpose stay on the server even if you know you will get
wrecked.  Furthermore, you shouldn't be racing N4 pickups if you want
quality racing.

Yes.

This is the exact reason why I opted to stop racing online via N4!
If the kiddiez want to play Demo Derby lett'em but I want to race
online with clean racers.. i'.e. Back to GPL for me!! Fact!! :-)

The problem is with N4, of course you've got excellent built in mulitplay,
just point, click, and your off to the races . Plus Nascar Racing is much
more popular here in the states, so there are many, many more copies of N4
out there. GPL however, is harder to learn to drive, you have to do some
research to find the online community, download the software (vroc), in
order to really get started with online racing. Plus there are much fewer
copies.
No doubt the quality of the avg racer online with GPL is going to be
considerably better than the quality of the avg racer in N4. Plus in N4 cars
tend to run much closer together for longer periods of time. And then you
have all these folks that don;t really care about good online races in N4,
and sign on just to create havock for kicks, because it is so easy to do.
My advice to anyone that wants to race N4 online semi-seriously, is to seek
out some of the good online N4 leagues, get hooked up with 1 or 2 of them,
and practice, practice, practice. Online racing with N4 can be very
exciting.

Don you are "spot-on!" I agree.. In my little world I just can not make
a commitmnet to a league. [any league which is only my problem] But
I have always seen a nicer crowd [if you will'] in Vroc verses N2, N3
& now N4.. I understand exactly what you mean but it would be nice
if "I" [or anyone] could go online via N4 without all this wrecker ***
and have a few nice races or hours of racing. Yes, I also know that I
could find a good group of racers in 'N4' and just race with them but
I have done this and they are not always online when I am..
"O" well it just seems a part of sone the Nascar Crowd & I guess it
will always be there.. Either put up with it or dont.. ya know?
Ok, Thats my cent & a 1/2...:-) Thom_j.

That's what the rankings try and sort out, but the thing is you have to
endure tons of bad races to get a good ranking to move up to good races.

N4 - What the heck is the "Wrecking Crew" ???

I think that is in part is due to the relaxed damage in N4. All in all, if
you choose to race pickup races I guess you have to expect immature
individuals to ruin races.

N4 - What the heck is the "Wrecking Crew" ???

by Davi » Tue, 19 Jun 2001 13:08:17

Well I ran a couple races Friday night at Watkins.  First race was pretty
clean actaully, for me at least. I stayed out of trouble and was running
second when I was flat out of tires.  When Third who had pitted for a repair
and tires came up I just let him by.  On the final lap he did get into
somone and well I got by again, then was trying to race him the last two
corners when I ended up letting him by again since I just did not have
anything left in the car due to the tires.

My second race we had a kid complaining about running Sim mode and not
arcarde. Well at the start he turns a few guys around before the start, and
well Turn one was a nightmare. I got loose entering turn one and well was
lucky to take the inside grass and keep off of anyone.  He did not. He took
out a grouping of cars and well I entered the track dead lasst and well then
by the esses was in the top five again.  Well a few laps in I got into thrid
by a neat passing manuver in the last corner and well going thru the esses I
here there is a wreck in the inner loop. the same kid did not even try to
stop, and used the second place car for brakes entering the innner loop.
well the guy running the server after seeing the chat notes did eject the
kid pretty quickly. That was nice to see since I have seen early GPL races
marred by the same type of drivers.

Overall I was kinda suprised on the level of driving in N4.  Having been
used to high quality driving in GPL,  watching the fast guys leave me for
dead, and getting passed cleanly before I even knew the guy was behind me.
It kinda suprised me in N4 that both races I entered I was able to get into
the top 3 by the end of the race.  I will say both races were a lot of fun
tho and the fast guys who were ahead of me were very very fast.
