Help!! N2 Configuration

by Strothar » Thu, 03 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Stop a crazy man from taking a sledge hammer to his pc!

Why do I continue to have difficulty with configuring the wheel and
pedals for N2? I've followed the good advice received here at RAS, and
updated the game to version 1.03 using the patch from Sierra. Still no
good, cannot set up the wheel. What gives? Am I missing something
obvious?

System is PII 350,Win98, 64 meg, Monster 3DII, Logitech Wingman Formula
wheel. This works perfectly fine for GPL, and various other game demos.

I need help quickly; no one wants to see a grown man cry!

Hi Strothard,

Here is a quick answer, before you wreck your PC.

I believe a force feedback wheel will not work with N2, unless it uses a
normal analogue game port.  Umm, come to think of it I remember someone
saying Papy has their own optimized joystick port code in N2 and it will
not recognize some controllers.

Please take this with a grain of salt, as I do not have the wheel.

Jason.

I have the wheel and you are right with all of your speculation.
The wheel does work in the DOS version of IndyCarRacing
so it isn't that the wheel will not work in DOS. It does. It is
just that Papy totally porked the N2/NR1999 DOS joystick
stuff, all for online multiplay "optimizations".

Greg:

The Logitech wheel is the non force version. I use the Logitech Wingman
Formula as opposed to the Logitech Wingman Formula Force.

OK in that case, is your wheel setup on ID#1 in the Control Panel
joystick applet? It needs to be.

As noted by others, the configuration in N2 and also N99 isn't the greatest.  I
have had to do numerous re-configurations, centering the wheel, etc. before
they take.  Usually the problems with mine are with the wheel steering.
Occasionally, for some reason turning the wheel left makes the car go right, a
problem apparently similar to Ernie Irvan each Sunday...
