If you do decide to go for it, there is a huge
patch at the Valusoft website and a cheat to
disable the land mines.
I saw HT 1 in the bargain fodder bin so maybe I'll try that out
instead. Is the physics model any good? Thx.

That said, Hard Truck does have a certain goofy
appeal. Driving around at night in the rain can
be very relaxing. And you do have to pay
attention to how you toss your vehicle into turns
because the tail will let go on you if you get too
eager.

As long as it feels big and heavy that's good enough. :-)

I don't want to race truck cabs. I want to do long hauls with a semi.
Tried the MBTR demo and while it is very good, the subject matter
doesn't interest me.

There's a pretty arcady game in the real.com games collection...
Forgot the name but it involves quite a few vehicles.

Toss a few cheat codes at Hard Truck II and it,
too, might fit the bill. (I quit on my copy after
the fourth or fifth land mine incident. That was
before I learned there was a way to turn the
damned things off.)

I played HT1 quite a bit and enjoyed it. It wasn't graphically up to
the standards at the time it came out, but it wasn't all that bad.
The physics are OK, nothing dramatic, but not as bad as they could be,
either. The economic idea was probably fun but I didn't pay much
attention to it. I know you had to pick up loads and deliver them
without too much damage, you had to upgrade and maintain your truck,
buy new trucks, etc. It was ambitious and creative. I did spend some
really long hours spacing out trying to coax a giant truck through a
swamp, imagining I really had a crucial load to deliver, etc. Maybe
it helps that i am a delivery driver in real life, though not in a big
truck. And no, I don't deliver pizzas.
I purchased Hard Truck 2 hoping it would be a graphic improvement over
HT1 and maybe some physics upgrades, etc. I have installed it and
started it up a couple times, but haven't had the time to get into it.
Someone else in this thread noted that it was heavy on the economic
sim thing this time around. I did see a lot of that in the manual,
but haven't done anything with it yet. The graphics and physics
seemed very similar to the first one, too.
They are (as far as I know) the only sims/games in this genre, so if
it interests you, I say : Take look! I had fun with HT1 and will
probably eventually have some fun with HT2. They were cheap and worth
at least what I paid for them.

Thx.

Thx for the insight. I'm downloading the demo of the first HT now so
will get a better idea of what to expect soon. I can get HT1 for
$10.00 CAD or HT2 for $20.00 CAD so at that price i will probably buy
at least one of them.

Thx. I read an interview with the developer of HD 1 and 2 and it
sounds to me like HT2 has more of what I'm looking for, bar the land
mines. But, HT 1 only has fixed trailers where as HT 2 has both fixed
and independent trailers. The economic model in HT 2 sounds more
interesting too. He also said that the developers of HT also developed
some simulator for NASA and that they physics model in HT2 is somewhat
accurate.
