Problems updating Rendition version CART with 3Dkits - plz help

Hi all,

After 4 hours I'm almost at the tearing-out-of-hair stage :)

so far I have :

used the dos installation method to install the Rend. version of CART to
c:\icr2 - I know its the correct version cos its from the d:\dos\rend
folder and it generates files called rr.exe and rr.mas which sit in the
icr2\ folder

put copies of pack.exe and unpack.exe in c:\icr2\

created a c:\icr2\3dkits\ folder which now contains -
    3d_setup.exe
    clvlndhq.zip
    dethq.zip
    lngbchhq.zip
    midohhq.zip
    trontohq.zip
    vanhq.zip

put a copies of the 204g version of pkzip.exe and pkunzip.exe in
c:\windows. My default path points to my windows folder - if I go to a
root directory dos prompt I can type "pkzip" and it is found.

WinZip installed with standard preferences

NOW, after I go to dos prompt and run 3d_setup all seems well, 3 more
files are generated.

BUT whenever I do a install /a I always the same error: "you must have
michhq.dat installed in ..... must have lagunahq.dat installed in ...
etc" and spits me out.

Even if I go back and change my ICR2 track folder and *.dat names to
match them to those above I still get spat out with no converted tracks
:(

I've read the instructions over & over and I don't think I've missed out
a step - but of course I'm probably wrong :)

Can someone give me some pointers here ? TIA

I had a lot of trouble with this too, but eventually got it to work.
Trust me, it is worth it.

Read the installation instructions at
http://simracing.com/alison/gpl/cart/install.htm and follow them to the
letter. She has other instructions elsewhere at ther site which are not
as complete.

Note the difference in the install files you download:

1. one set if you have the Rendition version of CART and you want to
3Dkit-upgrade the other tracks.

2. a different set if you don't have the Rendition at all.

Make sure you follow this instruction if you have the Rendition version.

"The best way to install the Rendition version of CART is to run
INSTALL.EXE in the \DOS\REND folder on the CD. Install to a folder
called \ICR2 on your hard drive."

Make sure you have allocated 1536k memory for your DOS window. Just
rebooting to DOS doesn't do it. She has a good description at
http://simracing.com/alison/gpl/cart/readme.htm#a1 .

Good Luck....wtonsmann

update:

After deleting the whole icr2 dir i decided to start again - except that
THIS TIME I had a look in the tracks dir and was surprised to find an extra
5 directories ending in "hq" - corresponding to those which were missing
when I tried to update the graphics before !!!! On previous installations of
the Rend version I only had the standard 15 track dirs.... very odd (see
previous post)

Anyway now I able to update the graphics successfully !

Yeah, I spent the better part of an afternoon getting this puppy to work
right. It can be a bear.

What's more, am I the only one that isn't happy with the result? The
"blur-o-vison" is giving me a headache. I think I actually prefer the years
old, unexeclerated, but crisp, VGA graphics.
