CH Pro PEDALS & ICR :-(

Went out and got an early Xmas gift....CH Pro pedals. Thought they would
be a huge improvement over my home made pedals. Well, i'm not overly
impressed.  One problem is that the driving mode seems to have been an
after thought....the flight sim rudder mode uses the forward/backward
motion and is quite good. But, for driving, you use the pivoting motion of
the pedals....but there's no way to lock the rudder motion....so you have
to be careful the pedal doesn't move forward when trying to pivot. Also,
they really made a mistake in placing the pivot point where they did....in
order to pivot, you foot heal *MUST* lift off the floor. In a real car,
your foot stays planted on the floor by your heel, with the weight of your
leg resting on the heel. With the pro pedals, you have to use your leg
muscles to support the weight of the leg/prevent the pedal from moving
forward. Try this for 20-30 laps on an oval (ie. with full throttle for
99% of the time) and i'll be VERY surprised if you don't get a leg cramp.
This is much less of a problem however if you are constantly changing
speeds like on road courses. Another problem with the pedals is that you
have to use two feet to control them. This is correct for rudder pedals,
but takes quite alot of getting used to for driving. The pedals are too
far apart/too wide to easily lift off the accel. and hit the brake with
the right foot. The above mentioned forward/backward motion plays a factor
here, if you try using only one foot, it's much harder to prevent
forward/backward motion while trying to pivot the pedals.
