4 bit -vs- 8bit in Nascar2

by Aaron Needh » Sat, 08 Feb 1997 04:00:00

I just upgraded from 24 meg ram to 32 meg. When i had the 32 meg i could run
Nascar2 in the 4 bit mode by running a ramdisk line in my config sys for 8
meg. Now with the 32 meg i tried to double my number in the config sys and it
locks up right when it tries to open windows. Is there an easy way to use up
the extra 16 meg so i can still run N2 in the 4 bit mode. Otherwise I'm
considering going back to 24 meg.  Thanks for any info.

I do something similar, however I use SMARTDRV to eat up memory.  I have
48mb of memory and use the following line in my autoexec.bat:

c:\windows\smartdrv j- a- b- d- e f- g- i- h 31372 512

the letters with "-" are drives which I don't cache with smartdrv.  You
might try 16192 in place of the 31372

It's been a while since using Smartdrive, but I seem to remember
that if you use -q that all drive (except HD) are excluded...There
are other switches that can speed-up the use, but I'll have to search
through my notes...

Best Regards,
