4 bit vs 8 bit cars in Rendition ICR 2

I just got a Reactor card with the Rendition compiled ICR 2.  It
mentions the 4 bit vs 8 bit car sets and says the 8 bit ones are the
better ones (which makes sense) but then says that the paint kit
doesn't work with the 4 bit ones.  Doesn't the paint kit work with the
old style car sets (old style = non Rendition)?

What is the usual car set bit depth (as in the ones floating around on
the net)?

Some subset of 8-bit (the non-Rendition game is an 8-bit game; some of
those 256 colors are available for painting cars)

The paintkit creates and edits 8-bit sets...if you were to try and
alter the 4-bit set (and saved), you would in fact be saving it as
an 8-bit set, thus eliminating the 4-bit one...

If you can run the 8-bit set (indyfast.bat), just delete the 4-bit
one...it's taking-up space.
