Toyota in RBR

Toyota in RBR

Wow...I just got RBR yesterday and my arms are already sore from
fighting my FF wheel. This game is SO intense. The learning curve
reminds me so much of GPL it isn't even funny. It's like 1998 all over
again -- that feeling of "I can't stop trying this until I beat my best
time!" Man, what a game. Hard as hell and loving every minute of it.
Frustrating at times, but fun.

Anyway, has anyone tried the Corolla? I did tonight and it's MUCH easier
to drive than the WRX and the Evo. It might be because it's lighter and
has less power, but it turns in better, doesn't understeer as much, and
it much easier to control when you hang the tail out. The WRX and Evo
are so twitchy. I'll eventually start tweaking the setups for them to
try to sort out the handling, but for now I am just concentrating on
learning how to drive with the Toyota. This game has proved to me that
just about EVERYTHING I've learned in every other rally game has been
wrong. I would say Rally Trophy comes closest but even it's light years
from the physics in RBR.

I have put a video of a replay on my website here:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

It's right around 13 megs. I captured it with my digital camera on a
tripod aimed at my screen so the quality isn't the best but you can see
how amazing the replays look. It is me running the Toyota at Frazier
Wells and running a 2:14.01

Very cool Todd, thanks so much.  Any chance for a video of an in car ride?

Mitch

I love that track :) Did you remember to put in the longer gear ratios? Its
damn scary keeping the car straight at top speed

The replays truely are striking beautiful. Awesome stuff, thanks for
sharing. I'll give the Corolla a spin tonight.

Cheers,

uwe

If only the front wheels turned like in the console versions!  I'm guess
that's the first thing they would have fixed in the upcoming patch...

Not to hijack the thread, but tell us more of your Computer system setup?
Nice gfx IMHO.  hope it can look as good with my older geforce4.

Sure:

P4 2.53 Ghz
ATI Radeon 9600XT
512 megs RAM

Nothing special by today's standards but it runs RBR very well. Graphics
settings:

Graphics quality: High
Dynamic car reflections and car shadows ON
Triple buffering OFF
Particle Quality: High
1024x768x32

These are the defaults -- I haven't changed anything but the resolution
(defaulted to 800x600.)

Hmm, I'm curious, do you run with v-sync on or off? ...and do you have a
reason for not using Triple Buffering if you do have V-sync on?

I ask because I have a very similar spec (Athlon 2500+, 1Gb Ram,
9600xt-128Mb version), and given the Catalyst drivers 'less than
stellar' OpenGL performance,  I've found that in Doom 3 (another OpenGL
title) I get smoother gameplay & *consistant* framerates by enabling
Vsync & TB than I do by turning them both off.

If you have a chance would it be possible for you to run a quick test
with v-sync on & TB on and let me/us know if there is any benefit /
drawback to having TB & V-sync on with RBR?

(Waiting for my copy to arrive, else I'd do so myself.)

Alan.

not a priority here, they look awesome as they are. If they improve
them, fine ;-)

cheers,
uwe

says...

I had v-sync set to be controlled by the application so I assume RBR was
using it. I now have it forced to on. As for triple buffering, I just
didn't think about turning it on. It's on now.

Sure. I've been meaning to download Fraps so I'll do that in a bit and
test the framerates both ways. I'll let you know what I find.

I've heard this mentioned before.  Is that in the replays, and are you
referring to rotating or just moving left-right?

Moving left/right.
