F1GP demo vs full game

by brop9.. » Wed, 05 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I have the F1GP demo.  I am considering buying the full F1GP game.
I was wondering what the benefits of the full game, besides more
racing.  I know the demo runs at 8 fps but the full game can run at 24
fps.  Does this make the racing more real?  Are the graphics better on
the full game?  I have a hard time reconizing depth in the demo.  Is the
steering not as fake on the real version?

Last question, I like F1GP because its a F1 sim.  I know that F1GP 2 is
due out soon.  I will most likely purchase F1Gp 2 when it comes out, I
was also considering ICR.  A local store is selling ICR for under $30.
How many tracks does the ICR have (which ones?) and how does IRC measure
up to F1GP race wise?

Thanx,
Nathan

The real game runs at 25 fps, and it's the smoothness and fluidity of
the high frame rate that makes the game for me. I've not been able to
match it on either of Papyrus's sims (ICR, NASCAR) even on my P90. It
makes the whole game far more realistic and easy to play. I don't think
the demo was missing anything graphically; perhaps you didn't turn road
texture on (press "T"), or perhaps you're just expecting too much from
a 2-D monitor. IMO F1GP has no less a sense of depth than ICR, for
example. Steering help is still part of the game (although it can be
turned off if you have a T1 or a really good joystick). Since the game
is now out on a budget label (PowerPlus) it's worth buying, IMO (but
I'm biased :-).

Here in the U.K., F1GP is available on a budget label for about
15.00 UKP.  If you can get it for that price near you, then it has to
be a must buy.  The Amiga version of F1GP also runs at about 8 FPS.
Just ask any Amiga owner who's moved across to the PC version what
the difference is between the game running at 8 FPS and 25 FPS
.. in a word, outstanding!

Similarly, here in the U.K., Indycar Racing is currently available
together with the Track expansion pack at a low price.  I've got both
games, and did in fact spend a lot of time driving the road courses
of Indycar.  However, I always find that I go straight back to F1GP,
it's just more my style of racing, and the graphics are much smoother
and faster than Indycar.

Overall, the graphics system is more advanced in Indycar racing, but
less smooth unless you've got the computing horse power.  As a
simulation, Indycar is definitely harder to drive, and I guess
therefore more realistic.  However, there are a number of little
touches in F1GP that for me make it stand head and shoulders above
Indycar racing:  For instance, the impression of spray and lack of
visibility in a wet race is amazing, the pit lane appears much more
lively, and the racing closer.  F1GP is also well supported with a
whole host of editors and patches.  Finally, and for me this is
the winning point: you'll never be able to drive round Silverstone,
Suzuka or the legendary Spa circuit in Indycar racing.  However, as
your email address hints that you're American, these circuits may
not mean as much to you as they do to me.

They're both great simulations ... Go on, buy them both :)

Personally I bought ICR just to race round Laguna Seca.

Absolutely!

Seconded!
I had an Amiga and after coming over to the PC it was the first game that I
rushed out to buy!
