Rally Champ 2k - Chugging?

On some stages, in the middle of a stage I will get 1-2 minutes of
'chugging'.  It seems like the game is dropping 4-5 frames at one second
intervals as if the CPU is overloaded calculating the background or
something.  It does affect the frame counter a bit.  It doesn't seem to be
too related to how much scenery is visible, but does seem to be more common
on stages with weather.  I tried dropping my video resolution to cure it to
no avail.  Maybe it's the video replay information?  Any way to turn that
off.  Anyone know an tweaks to help this?   I see ral.cfg heap size vars in
the .exe but the defaults are unreadable hex.

Anyone else get this?

My system: Geforce DDR, Celeron 488, 98mb, LXmb, 200 mb swap, nothing
extraneous running.

Yep, i thought it was my v3-3000 to blame. Pausing the game and alt-tabbing
out and then going back in the game seems to cure the problem for a little
while longer. Its pretty dam irritating.

I got the same problem on a completely different system: 333MHz P II,
Voodoo3 3000 AGP, Diamond Monster MX300 sound card. Turning off all 3D sound
acceleration (A3D in my case) helped a bit, running 800x600, but getting the
latest Voodoo3 drivers (as of Jan 25) seemed to help the most.

BTW, how do you get a frame counter??? I've been wishing for one from day
one so I don't have to guess whether or not things are improving.

RC2K choppy graphics has been a problem since the beginning. The solution
that solves it for me is to shut down all unnecessary processes, all system
tray jobs and all.

There's a tool called ENDITALL that helps here, do a search for enditall.exe
or .zip and I'm sure you'll find it.

Frame counters are very useful I use FRAPS, again do a search for FRAPS.EXE
or .ZIP and you'll track it down. (This doesn't appear to work in Le Mans
24Hr but then it's not a big deal here).

Send me an e-mail if you can't get them.

Andi.

You can get the fps by changing the ral.cfg file using the latest patch.
I'll send you the file through e-mail.

That's the way to do it if your system is having some trouble.

I'll send you the same file that I'm sending Rob which enables the fps
counter. You must be using the latest patch for it to work.

I turned of replay=1 in ral.cfg (already had the fps counter), ran cacheman,
killed everything and haven't had the stutter again.  I think it's lack of
memory (98megs here) because the game was using 98 physical + ~135 mb
virtual in that 'clean' configuration.  I guess a 256 meg machine is the new
standard.

Could you clarify? How do you turn off replays in ral.cfg? Is it
replay=1
noreplay=1
replay=0
etc...?

I never use replays and if RC is "chugging" because it's swapping them to
disk I really want to turn them off!

Anybody know of a web page that describes all the ral.cfg settings,
especially those that aren't documented in the readme's that came with the
patches?
