I am to the point where I am winning most of the races against opponets
set on 75% with auto-braking enabled.  What would you consider the next
level up?  Can you give me any strategy for winning the tougher races?

Set the opponant level to 100%. You can go up to 125%, but this is totaly
unrealistic. I use 100% opponants with manual braking & autoshift. In michigan,
I use the ACE setup & qualify at 233mph. The #2 qualifier was ~220mph. As
you could imagine the race wasn't very equal... But with the opponant level
set to 125% they qualified at 270mph. Completely unrealistic for an indycar,
as far as I know.

Note also to everyone that you can edit the engine/chassis ratings fror
each opponent individually.  For instance, the Newmann Haas Lola/Cosworths
have higher ratings then other Lola/Cosworths in general.  I am wondering
if changing these values are in any way realted to the opponent level that
you can set; i.e., does the opponent level effect the percentage of the rating
that is in the file?  Otherwise, you could set the levels to 125, have them
_race_ and _drive_ better, but still have chassiss/motors that could
only go, say, 240 at MIS.  That would be much more realistic.

If anyone is wondering what this file is, I can't remember the exact name
or location, but it's in a directory with like only 1 or 2 other files.
You can also change the names of the drivers to what they _SHOULD_ be;
that is, "Nigel Mansell" instead of "Nick Montel", Nelson Piquet, etc.
Notice how the file gives you "hints" as to who the drivers should be...

I've switched over to the penske(sp?) chassis with the cosworth
engine with dramatic speed improvment. Also, I load the ACE
settings. With the opponents set to 100%, I don't have any trouble
as long as I back off on the turbo (I've had several tires wear
down and blow before I needed to pit). My only trouble seems
to be "passing without hitting something" and very bad pitstops.
I go from first to 8th after pitting. Something to work on I guess.

I've had no luck making my own changes to wings/tires/braking/sway
anyone have any good settings?

I drive new hampshire a lot, it's the easiest...

Interesting. Haven't had anything like that happen. check your tire
compounds. For ovals, I use soft on LF, soft/med on LR, RR soft/med/hard,
and RF med/hard. When I have more than one choice, I evaluate
performance based on tire temp. optimal performance is in the 250-280
range.   Road courses I use soft all around.

Adjust wings as necessary. Tires as suggested above. Check the tire
temps - all 3 readings across a tire should be just about equal. If the
middle is consistently cooler than the outsides, add a pound or 2 of
pressure. If the middle is consistently warmer than the outsides, drop a
pound or 2. keep in mind, other changes will affect tire temp, so you
need to monitor them.

I am running the championship season. First time thru the season I
finished 15th. Its tough when you are using a keyboard (of all times for
my joystick to break...).

'I've played at 75% for a while but by simply boosting up the %
you will have a harder time passing and stuff. I play long beach at
default and 75% and can get the lead by lap 2. But by putting the % to
say 85-90% you would have more challenge yet not be blown away! I
haven't raced many of the ovals cause I'm a road circuit person ( yeh F1
fan here). Also, I find that have the same percentage setting at
different tracks does noy yeild similar results. Laguna Seca is a great
track and harder to master but a delight when you don't hit the grass!

As a side note, is there anyway to save best lap times for a particular
race. I'm always zooming by trying to glance at the pit board and can
never remeber the best lap time. Indy uses avg mph versus f1 using time.
Also, maybe we can start a flying and qualifying lap " contest", just
post your times and see who's the master of a track. Anymore Ideas??

If you exit Indycar before running another race, look in the Indycar
directory for the results.txt file. This file contains all the finishing
info(ranks, etc.). The last line contains the data on your fastst lap.

The best lap time is recorded in the last line of the "results.txt"
file.

It seems to work fine for ovals, but was gobble-dee-goop for Long Beach.
Haven't tried any other road courses yet.
