LWFF Just Snapped!

My 2-months old LWFF just gave out, the steel cable came off
the "tracks", so no more FF... Since it is under warranty, I am sure
Logitec will replace it, but I am just wondering if anyone else has a
similar experience, or am i just unlucky!

Thanks,
Jaz

I think you are VERY unlucky, I never heard anything like this before.
I've got my LWFF 6 months now, very intensive use (3 hours a day, in
the weekend probably 4-6 hours a day), and it still works like a
charm.

I'd say unlucky - I have mine for over a year now and it still works
perfect.

I had a similar thing happen to mine, although it was more like six
months before the cable was slipping. I didn't open it up to see exactly
what went wrong, but the motor would whir away continuously while not
actually moving the wheel, so I expect it was the cable coming off the
drum just like yours.

I shipped it back to Logitech, it took about 3 weeks for a replacement to
arrive. This was a different, and I assume refurbished, unit.
Interestingly enough, the second wheel gave better force feedback
effects! I could finally feel the weight transfer in GPL while zipping
through the esses in Watkins Glen.

Well, I might as well add my experiences... I've had my Logitech
force-feedback wheel for probably about 9 months now, with no
problems.  The steering column has "loosened up" significantly, but it
doesn't effect my performance (I just hope it doesn't get any worse).
By "loosening up" I mean there is a little play if I lift up on one
side and push down on the other.  Hard to explain, but it's definitely
not "loose" in the precision.

About the "whirring motor"-- mine will sometimes emit a slight motor
noise when sitting there, but it's seems to be because the wheel is
slightly off-center and the autocentering is trying to correct it.  I
move the wheel slightly towards center and it stops.

In all, it was one of my better purchases, which is ironic because I
didn't research it much at the time.  I had seen the wheel in the
store, and it was the first USB wheel I'd seen so I picked it up.  It
was my first (and only) force-feedback wheel.

I just called Logitec and my wheel will be replaced, so I will open up
the old one and see it can be repaird, if so, then I will have one
backup unit. Before the cable snapped, the wheel felt sticky and I
heard grinding noise from time to time, perhaps the cable was about to
come off the drum. Anyway, sounds like bad luck based from your
feedbacks.

Thanks,
Jaz
