I can host 20+ just fine on my dsl line, I have had as many as 30 on. . At
www.dslreports.com my speed measures usually about 500kbps down
and 400kbps up.
I am curious though as to how much you pay to locate a server at an ISP
and do they charge for actual bandwidth/bytes, How does that work ?
Also will they let you use software like pcanywhere or vnc to control
you're remote
server. Also If you're server happens to crash 'windows machine ya know' do
they have
folks on site that can reset for you.
thanks

This can vary widely. For a typical N4 collocated server you're not talking
about a lot of bandwidth (in real internet server terms) so you can get the
cheaper rates. In my experience you get what you pay for. Great ISP sites
with a top notch backbone and routers demand more money. You can get it from
$50 a month up to $1000 or more depending on the ISP. The average for a
pretty good one is about $100-$400 a month depending on where you locate it.
Yes, almost all of them charge by bandwidth, but again that's not usually an
issue for N4 unless you run a ton of servers or do other things on the
server that cause the bandwidth usage to go up.
Yes.
Yes. Most sites either automatically reboot for you, have a web site to do
it, or do it after you call them.

I think I am luckier than most in that I'm getting SDSL like quality
because my
ISP services small cities but seems to have a nice fat pipe to the backbone.
I
guess if I where replacing a ISP located server I would definitely look into
SDSL service but that probably wouldn't be much of a money savings.
Good luck to ya Tim, Thanks again Tom

I've hosted 5 on N4 with no problems. Behind a hardware
firewall too. I need to host a race sometime for more and see
what happens I guess. Anyone up for a race tonight?
