I don't know. My understanding from reading r.a.s is that it can no longer
be ordered. No one has told me anything, and I'm not even sure who to ask
at this point...

I too spoke to Papy this morning. What they *were* offering was extra
stock they had left over from their last run of the product. It hasn't
actually been manufactured for some time now and they are definitely out
of stock.
I asked them about their position regarding copying of the program now
that they no longer offer it for sale (BTW they *still* hold the license
for it - see an earlier message in this thread saying they had lost their
license). Papy said this was illegal even though they are not selling it.
The provisions of the original copyright still apply. However, it has not
been discussed by the management group at Papy. I am guessing that
prosecuting someone for copying the program may not be high on their
priority list.
There was one other interesting comment. Papy said that using the
conversion utility to run IMS with Indycar II *is* a copyright violation.
This is interesting in light of all those lucky owners of IMS that are
saying no to sharing the proggy with the rest of us due to copyright.
They will happily violate copyright by converting the track but shy away
from sharing it with others to avoid copyright violation. Strange indeed...
BTW, I am one of the unfortunates looking for a copy of IMS. I will
gladly pay for it if someone wants to sell it or if they want to make a
copy of it... :-)

I too am looking for a copy of Indy (not necessarily a illegal copy just a
copy.) If I can't buy it then I need help getting it some other way. E-mail
Thanx,

Copyright violation? No way. Once you buy software you can do whatever you want
with it as long as you don't give or sell copies of it to anyone else, or
include it in your own programs. You can reverse engineer it, modify it, use it
however you want. I think the conversion falls under the same category as
program 'cracks'; it doesn't distribute any of the original program's code, it
modifies what you already bought. Nothing illegal about that.
as recovered through Deja-News. Guess they had a change of attitude ?

Actually, this isn't true. Many software licensing agreements explicitly
forbid reverse engineering, modification, etc. Be sure to read the
agreements in the future.

I don't think so. I think modifications to software are allowed for
personal use, but distribution of modified commercial software is
illegal in most cases.
Pasi.
THIS is what's sad. People are willing to BUY instead of copying it, and they
CAN'T :(
