I dont know how to get it to say it's off, but if you create your own
profile and then edit the gear up/down buttons, you can certainly
drop gears while accelerating and vice versa.

If you select separate buttons for upshifting and downshifting it should
turn off automatically.

GP4 - Gear/Throttle Link?

Thanks Ian. I know that is what should happen - it was the same in GP3, BUT
it doesn't for me. In the menu screen it changes to off when selecting
different buttons, but if I go out of the menu and back in, the link is back
on.
This makes it really difficult to change down quickly. It's the biggest
gripe I have with the GP series and GP4 is no different. There must b a way
to force the link to be off. Any editors out there?

GP4 - Gear/Throttle Link?

I have a MSFF and mapped my shift buttons to "space bar" and "shift key"
that way it sees the shifting as a keyboard presses and then it removes the
link. It helps some, but your down shifting is still resticted by engine rpm
(i guess so you don't over rev your motor.

Don't understand. Do you mean you don't use the wheel buttons for gear
shifting?
Thanks

Yes I use the wheel buttons. I use the software that came with the
wheel(sidewinder) to program the buttons to be the equivalent of a keyboard
press instead of a joystick button.

That's what I thought, so what do you mean then when you say you assigned
your shifts to 'space bar' and 'shift key'?
Thanks

GP4 - Gear/Throttle Link?

In the GP4 controller setup they only give you a choice of "space" or
"shift" keys for keyboard use for changing gears. What type of controller
are you using? If you are using either microsoft wheels I can email you some
screen shots of my setup. I program 2 buttons on the wheel to emulate a
"space" and "shift" key press using the sidewinder software that comes with
the wheel.

OK, now I understand. It's the sidewinder mapping software.
Thanks,
