hi

I am having problems mapping joystick MS sidewinder to
use button 1 and 2 to gear up /down respectively

anyone with better luck ?
there was a post hidden with some discussion
that the user managed a rather elaborate way
but I could not find the post again

same here. my thrustmaster ferrari force feedback is proving skittish.  I've
mapped all the correct axes and buttons apart from the shift down.  The game
won't let me change it and uses the same button as change up, so in the game
change up works, but change down doesn't.
Also the menu selections flit around as though the wheel was interfering
with the keyboard menu selections, it jumps around between all the options
despite me centring the wheel and not pressing any wheel buttons.

May not work for all; but I found that the gear change controls could not be
set because the game level options were defaulted to Rookie which has
auto-gears. Hardly logical; but...

Anyway, first set the level to ACE, and disabled auto-gears at that level;
and then I was able to config the controls no problem.

At the risk of  being shot down; I find the graphics of GP4 more natural
than F1-2002; and the whole experience continues to be a sweaty handed
affair against the great AI. Just need an Athlon 4000+ to turn on all the
options!
