Need help with GPL controller setup

by Uwe Schürkam » Mon, 28 May 2007 18:23:02

Hi folks,

I have three USB controllers connected to my machine:

- TM HOTAS Cougar
- Logitech Driving Force Pro Wheel (just the wheel, no pedals)
- Plasma Lite USB V2 Board connected to my TSW pedals

Now, when I try to assign controllers in Grand Prix Legends, GPL only
seems to detect two controllers (the cougar stick and the pedals), but
not the Momo DFP wheel. All other racing sims work fine with this setup
and allow me to assign the steering axis to the DFP, but not GPL.

I'd appreciate any hints on how to make GPL see the DFP instead of or in
addition to the Cougar.

Thanks in advance & all the best, uwe

What order are they listed in Windows Control panel? Is GPL seeing only the
first two devices?

Andi.

Hi Andi,

they're listed in the above order, and the pedal axes work fine. I'd
rather not crawl under the desk and unplug the cougar every time I might
want to fire up GPL, and as other sims have no problems finding the DFP
I wonder if GPL can be brought to do the same?

Cheers, uwe

The wheel may have to be the first device, which I think you can assign in
the control panel. There's also a selection there for which device to use
with older games, it may be that needs to be set differently.

I bet our friend Bernd would know the answer.

Uwe, the simple solution is to use GPLShift which allows more axes to
be recognized.  Find this utility at http://www.gplshift.dk/  The line
Share_All_16_AXES = 1 that you need is near the bottom of the ini
file.

It's not just for enabling an H-shifter in GPL.  You can use it to
change FOV too.

Hi Bob,

that worked rather nicely, but now I cannot assign the shifter buttons
to *any* button on the wheel. The steering axis is detected ok now, but
not the buttons. Any ideas on how to fix this one?

Thanks for your help,

uwe

Buy a USB extension cable, so you can more easily unplug the cougar.

What do you mean by "assign the shifter buttons"?  You mean the
paddles?  In GPLShift.ini set the first option to None since you're
not using an H-shifter.  Otherwise it expects to be detecting a
shifting device, I think.

Hi Bob,

thanks for the hint, I'll try that later tonight when I get home.

Cheers, uwe

Hi again,

I just tried setting the shifter to NONE, but still none of the wheel
buttons work.

Do I have to re-run gplshift after making changes to the gplshift.ini
file?

Cheers, uwe

No, you shouldn't have to.  First check that in the Control Panel >
Game Controllers window, the buttons are active.  Could it be that the
Logitech Profiler has conflicting button assignments?  Try turning the
profiler off if it was on.

If the buttons are active in the Game Controllers window, but not in
GPL, I'm stumped for now.  If you run GPLpatch.EXE again, you can
unpatch GPL (rerunning it will repatch it later) and you can see if
the buttons can be configured.
