Are you using Voodoo2 drivers other then 2.53 or 2.56? If so,
try the 2.56 drivers on
http://www.3dfx.com/

Two options:
1) Get the 2.53 driver from the fast lane (www.the-fastlane.com/patches.htm
and copy the .dll file in your GPL directory this way overruling the system
glide driver (only for GPL).
2) Get the newest native 3dfx driver at www.3dfx.com and install it on your
system.

Or set your renderer to software mode, set your joystick and then reset to
your 3dfx card, did it for me.
