Thrustmaster and Paintkit

Hi all!!

First, regarding the Thrustmaster T1 that you all admire - does it have one
or two leads that go into the back of the computer? If it has two, then
how are they connected? Does one lead go into the sound card, and the
other into the joystick port that comes with the computer, or do you need
a twin joystick port card? (If available)

Secondly, the paintkit that comes with the Indianapolis expansion pack -
it has been said that it supports the import/export of .PCX files. What
other programs are available that allow you to create/import/export .PCX
files?

Thanks in advance,

Cameron..

Yes and no.  The system requires a dual port game card, but it only connects
to one of them (port 1).  The lead from the pedals connects to the computer
via the card.  The wheel connects (piggy-back) to your padels cable.  In
addition, you can use either part by itself (i.e.- wheel or pedals)

When I leave the track and hop into my F-15 Falcon, I unplug the wheel from
the pedal unit and plug in my Thrustmaster Joystick.  Now my gas and brake
pedals become rudder pedals.  (yes, it works)

The .PCX files seem kinda touchy.  Not ALL programs that handle PCX files will
produce an image that can be cleanly used in IndyCar.  I created an entire set
of new cars for 1994 (CARS94.ZIP from didnt.doit.wisc.edu\\Racing.ICR.ICRS
although NOW you'll want to grab CAR94a.ZIP) within Paintkit.  Some other
people have had success with other programs with very nice looking results.

You're welcome, hope this helps.

You need a joystick port card that supports twin joysticks (A&B), but it
doesn't need two ports.  Only one port is needed.  Single joystick ports,
generally included with computers or are on an I/O card that includes Parallel
and Serial ports usually only support one joystick (A).  The port included on a
Sound Blaster or compatible Sound card generally supports two joysticks, even
though it only has one plug in port.  The logic on the card provides support
for two joysticks through a single port.  That is why you can order a Y adapter
and use two separate joysticks with it.  For a game such as ICR, it is
recommended that you get a separate Game card that has twin joystick support
and is adjustable to match the speed of your motherboard.  Thrustmaster offers
one for around $30 if I remember correctly.

Currently I have a Thrustmaster T1 and am using it through my Sound card's
Joystick port.  I haven't had any trouble with calibrating or steering the
unit, and it has worked very well for me.  If you want to give it a try, make
sure that you disable the joystick port that came with the computer so that the
two don't conflict.  You may need to switch a jumper on your motherboard and/or
on your sound card.
