N4 Patch Mulitplayer

I installed the new N4 patch without a hitch. The only problem is with
multiplayer. When I go into multiplayer it starts the login process but it
comes up with a message saying my version is not up to date.
Anyone else with this problem?

There appears to be a bug in the Wise installer which on some systems
can cause long file names to be truncated to 8.3 format during the patch
process.  The Sierra.com multiplayer login does a CRC check on the
executables and DLLs, and if they are not named properly they will not
be found and hence fail the check resulting in the "out of date" error.

Rename the following files:
NASCAR~1.exe > "NASCAR Racing 4.exe"
Sierra~1.dll > "SierraUpN4Res.dll"
rendse~1.dll > "Rendserver.dll"

And perhaps:
Paintkit\n4paint~1.rsc > Paintkit\n4paintkit.rsc

I talked with Papy QA yesterday just to confirm, and you are correct--it
is just thos 4 files that the problem is with.
The game works fine now with those modifications.

The easiest would be download the n4rename.bat utility from the Papyrus
web site (see the link in today's News update).  Simply run it from your
NASCAR4 directory to automatically rename the files if needed.

They have a batch file on the papy site that will take care of it
automatically.

Just download, place in the N4 directory, and run.

Voila!
