The only other way I know of to reset the telltale is when you hit
Shift-R, which resets everything, including cold tires :-(

I saw in the manual it was called 'telltale reset'.  It didn't say what the
hell it was FOR, though...and it didn't seem to DO anything.....

That can't be it because shift-R doesn't work in PRO races.

Anyone else have a clue?

If I remember correctly (I'm at work and can't verify this) the
TellTale indicator is reset every time you leave the pits.

I've noticed the telltale reset itself when I get a screen flash/clock smash
when playing online.

It hasn't happend again that I've noticed since I switched modems and solved the
problem.
