Does NFS:PU has the stupid arcade trick of blocking car choices and tracks
until you win races or find the cheat codes?

It does but it's well done, similar to the "career" mode in PSX GT2.
And there is already a cheat/trainer available to override it.

Sounds good. So how do you override this?

Just get this trainer, unzip it into the NFS-PU folder and
start the game using it, instead of the normal program. It
will unlock all cars and tracks.

Have fun!

Can you double-check that URL?  I get a site not found error message.

Using the trainer will give you most of the cars and access to all the
tracks, but you won't be able to tune the cars.  To do this you still
have to win them the old fashion way.  Also, there are special edition
cars you win when you complete the "Factory Driver" mode which the
trainer will not give you access to.

I have often wondered what a trainer exactly is or does... care to tell me?

A trainer makes a game easy, like unlimited money, or something like
that. Technically, there are various ways to do so. A trainer could
modify a saved game file, or it can "hook" into a program, adding the
cheat feature...

Just checked, works O.K.

The NFS:PU trainer gives lets you see more cars and tracks. I can't help it.
I like to have a preview of what I can expect to see when I win a bunch of
races.

Well MichaelV, considering that you consider career modes "stupid",
you'll want to get the cheat/trainer.

But, let me just tell you that NFSPU's career modes have really pulled
me in, and I'm not usually one to enjoy endless struggling to open
cars and tracks.  The test driver career is particularly fresh...  I'm
currently on the mission to deliver the boxter to the docks without
getting any damage.  The cops keep bashing me, and I keep missing the
turnoff/shortcut to the docks.  But it's hella fun trying!

Has anyone gotten the online racing to work yet?
