GPL .pbf file editing...help!

by J. P. Hovercraf » Mon, 10 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Hello all,

I'm attempting to fix the "page0.pbf" file for the converted Toronto
track so that it shows the Canadian flag instead of the US one...I'll
leave the Ontario track the way it is...8^).

I got the pack/unpack utility and Winmip for converting the file
formats. I uupacked the Toronto and Vancouver .dat files and converted
"page0" for both of them to ".bmp" files. I opened the Vancouver
"page0.bmp" and, using "Paint", cut and pasted the flag image into the
Toronto .bmp file and converted the resulting file back to a .pbf file.
I dropped the resulting file into the Toronto track folder. The results
showed up in GPL with the Canadian flag, but all the white in the image
is now purple. Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to correct
this? Please make it simple, as I'm no artist...or geographer for that
matter.

Thanks,

J. P. "Ontario" Hovercraft

The easieest solution i've found... is to make sure you save the bmp file as
a 24-bit file...
When you want to save the file, choose "save as.." and then select "24-bit
BMP file.."

I hope this works as I'm not used to "Paint" at all..., Photoshop on the
other hand, solves this just fine for me.. :)

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the reply, but even though Paint has a "Save as 24 bit .bmp" option,
I've still got purple. I'm going to take the original converted .bmps to work
Monday and see if the graphics dept. has a minute to try doing the edit and save
for me. I'll post if it works out.

You use an old version of WinMip.
For GPL texture converting GPLBatch is the easiest utility.

You can get it at http://members.aol.com/winmip

Thanks Klaus! That's done the trick! I'll be posting it to to
