Porsche Unleashed.
Motherboard = Asus CUSL2
Intel P-III 800
Video = Voodoo 4 4500 AGP
RAM = 256
When she completes a race in Single Player mode, she gets booted to
Windows with the error message:
FILE_save - unable to open file .\SaveData\nfs5.trk
[FILE=\real\cmn\hlsfile.c, LINE=628]
The system is otherwise running well. When the game was installed, the
original video drivers were on the system. Updated drivers have been
tried from 3DFX.com, the game has been reinstalled several times,
various fixes from EA support have been tried, such as turning off
sound, lens flare, etc. She has tried changing the Thrash driver in
the system Registry from using the voodoo2z.dll - the game default -
to using dx7z.dll - no luck. This system is running DirectX 8, by the
way.
EA has stated that this is a video card issue. I have seen one other
post on Google with this problem:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
The individual who posted the same problem has an nVidia GeForce2
setup...
Nothing has worked so far. I have seen NFS Porsche running on another
system with an Asus AGP V7100 setup, and the video quality and
performance is comparable - the only problem is, when the game tries
to save on her system, it terminates.
I don't have any experience with Voodoo cards. I see references to
people changing modes...? From Direct X to Glide or 3DFX. How is this
done?
Any other ideas?
Thanks...
Terry
