Ya so no real reason other than poor quality boards.  I think that if this
works it would be very dependant on the type of board and the bios version
in question.

That worked for me (P4 1,9Ghz, Radeon 8500). I had the same problem, the fps
was about 5 or 6. After downloading/installing Rage3D Tweaker, and disabling
the 'TCL Hardware' option in the DirectX settings, the game is now playable.
It's still not very fast (about 30 fps, drops to about 16 fps occasionally),
but it looks pretty good. I'll probably get rid of R3D Tweaker, once/if this
problem is sorted out.
