Doe the AI run you over during cautions on the NES version, too?

Prost Grand Prix, perhaps. Maybe Ducati World (or whatever). Perhaps
a truly awful cheapo game called "World Wide Rally". Definitely *not*
Spirit of Speed 1937, though the demo certaily qualifies!

Whoa, you mention some pretty shitty games there, I agree even Sos'37
can't beat those in terms of shittyness!
I mentioned SoS'37 because it would be better than GPL according to
the publisher. I actually believed that, imagine my feelings when I
tried it.. I had the same feelings as the day after the 'Gp*L
tonight!!' announcement :-/

Talking about N4.. I removed N4 from my HD because I got bored of it
and needed the space, but I forgot to backup my wonderfull custom-made
Durex(Tm) car (http://httpd.chello.nl/~a.warringa1/N4.jpg).
I believe you uploaded it to a site once, can I still download it
somewhere?

PS Sunday I will chill out by kicking your ass at Solitude.. or will
it be like last year, where you manage to block me lap after lap,
making me crash the car out of frustration? :))

Check your mail. The website is down, but as soon as I get adsl (now,
where have I said that before) I will build a proper one with lots of stuff.

I didn't block, I raced as hard as I could :o

You will probably park me at Solitude, since I haven't found time for
practice (damned norwegians doing so well in the olympics, I have to
watch). I'll be glad just to finish the race.

2002:

I know what you mean. I remember seeing the first preview of SoS in (I
think) PC Gamer - there was one big screenshot and some PR waffle, and
it looked *fantastic*. At the time I really thought historic racing
sims might take off as a genre in the same way that classic (real) cars
have. Then I tried the demo, and went away and cried, almost literally,
at the utter waste of a wonderful concept.

For a year or so after that I told everyone (as can be seen from some
of my earlier posts here) that SoS was indeed the worst driving game
ever. Then someone (I'm too lazy to look up who) pointed me in the
direction of that little control-device prog and told me the full game
was much better than the demo. And they were right. Still waaaay below
what it should have been, but acceptable for an occasional thrash.

That would've been either me or MrLipid.

;-)

Have you guys tried the Spirit Of Heat 1937 mod for NASCAR Heat yet,
by any chance?  I think WE have come up with THE definitive 1930s GP
simulation, in the GPL vein that we all hoped SoS would deliver . . .
give it a try if you haven't already:

Enjoy!

That was John Bodin, and yes SoS got a little bit better with that
Stickworks utility, at least it became playable.
Still a pile of ***though :-/
