New clutch pedal system coming up?

by Kenneth Verbur » Wed, 27 Jun 2001 02:41:49

I found a movie on the Internet today and instead of deleting it from my HD
again, I gathered it might be interesting to all of you as well. The file is
now available from our FilePlanet server at
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
some great heel and toe action (and a clutch) on a pedal system I have never
seen before (it's certainly no ACT LABS set up). The game sounds a lot like
NASCAR Racing 4, but I'm not 100% sure and it has to be a road track, with
the heel and toeing and heavy braking going on.

Does anyone know this pedal system? And who is the driver? What track is he
driving on? Where can I buy those shoes...ehm...You probably know what I'm
aiming at now. What's this all about? Will we have another competitor for
ACT LABS?

Of course we'll keep on searching for new info as well and we'll keep you
updated.

The video remains static but I can hear the sound. I'm using Realplayer
basic. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chances are you are viewing the preview video for the new Act Labs clutch
system.  It allows for heel-toe and is quite a bit larger than their current
pedals.  Looks a lot different too.

These pedals are "top-hinged" so I dont think they are the Act-labs ones..
By the look of things - I would say that the peadals are part of some sort
of "permanent***pit" al the Hyperstim, SMS etc. I also reckon that the
person "driving"  [N4 around the Glen] is either a real racecar-driver or
one that's put alot of hours behind the wheel of that thing... 'cause he
sure got the hang of the "heel 'n' toe" stuff!   Go watch it and learn!

Top hinged?  I recall reading about a mob who do some F1 components making
the only top-hinged pedals ATM.  Of course, if these are new to the market,
that would make two of them.

New clutch pedal system coming up?

by Tom Pabs » Wed, 27 Jun 2001 23:44:32

I'd agree with you Ed.  Top hinged = realistic peddles...finally!  These
would be applicable to stock cars, touring cars, GTP cars (class), most of
the ALMS cars, etc.  Bottom-hinged peddles only being "realistic" in open
wheel tubs!  Could this be a prototype peddle system (as the aluminum
construction suggests....makes sense for a prototype too = easy to fabricate
"on the fly") being designed for WSC?  Overhead peddles would require some
sort of a "frame" to mount them.......so my question is, "Who makes frames?"
That's probably where you'll find some answers to this.  And, as far as the
"heel and toe" work....that's definetly professional work in that video.
Again, this would point to a prototype......someone spending the time, money
and effort to have a professional driver confirm their operation,
configuration, adjustability (heal and toe requires the brake/gas combo to
be adjustable to fit the ergonomics of each specific driver).  Now, where do
I order these peddles?

Unfortunatly I cant say I agree with you Tom :-)
Top hinged pedals are for the road  - real racecars use bottom-hinged
pedals. :-)

Infact bottom-hinged pedals is getting to be the "norm" in racecars 'over
here'...  being it Le Mans Prototypes, touring cars, single-seaters, or
'saloons'.

Having said that.... I can understand why people want a "regulare-setup"..
it's probably easier and more comfy if your driving in a very 'upright
posistion' - I would however think that you will need to sort of bolt the
pedal "box" to something big and permanent - if you want to [ab]use it like
you can with a set of  bottom hinged pedals [as we got today]...

Hey Guys
first let me say that these pedals are not Act Labs.
i know that for a fact. i also know they are not made of plastic.
these are machined metal parts. they are very well built and
engineered. not plastic like act labs. they are indeed top hinged
pedals, not only that but im told they will be user adjustable as in
you will be able to set the distance between the pedals to suit your
own preference. its my understanding they will work in a***pit as
well as a desk configuration. yes ed the person doing the heel and toe
work in that vid has indeed driven real race cars.im not sure how much
time he actually had on those pedals when that vid was made though.
the only other top hinged sim pedals being made right now that im
aware of are from redline pedals. i have the redline pedals and wheel
and really like the top hinged feel of those pedals. im not gonna
spend my money on plastic act labs pedals and shifter when their are
much better built counterpart pieces coming from this company. i will
surely wait to pickup these pedals when they become available. not
only the pedals but other items to come from this company as well. all
top quality stuff. and im told the prices will be most reasonable.
those shoes are simpson racing shoes ken ;) 140 bucks from the simpson
racing web site.

Nigel Nichols for president !!!

Yes, they work as good as they look, the brake pedal has a secondary
spring that gives you an incredible control and makes modulating the
pedal pressure very "easy"...

Unless they are planning to loose money on this thing - those pedals will
cost *a lot* more than the Act-labs items.  So I really dont think you cant
make a comparison Mac..  (would be like comparing a Hyperstim to a MadCatz
wheel!)

I'm no expert but if I were to guess - I'de say a setup like that will set
you back $2-300 or maybe more.
Then again - I'd love to be wrong :-)
