Best PSX F1 game yet. Here's some thoughts:
Well, I've got a few hours of playtime in, and I must say that
EA Sports' F12000 is the best Formula One game for the PSX.
They did a terrific job with this game. It is based on the 2000
season, so all of the new drivers, teams and tracks, (Indy
included) are in the game.
Control is good, graphics are pretty decent, and there's no
arcade mode. WooHoo! The garage setup is adequate. and does
seem to have a pronounced effect on the car's handling. Besides
the usual modes, there's a testing mode, where you can view
your telemetry. This is the first useable telemetry I've seen
on a console game. You can view the data for various aspects of
your performance, while tracing the graph, as you would on a
graphing calculator. There's a corresponding dot on a track
map, to show where you are. You can press the circle button to
overlay you fastest lap, to see where you need to make
improvement.
Strategy is very good, as you can choose how many stops you want
to make. (The race must be at least 16 laps, though). You can
also choose how much gas will be put in for qualifying and
practice sessions.
Al seems pretty realistic, as does the physics. If you're a
Formula One nut, this is a must have. The only decision you may
need to make is whether to get the PC version for only $30, or
the PSX version for $45.
Life is what you experience between racing games.
