Help for GP2 Rookie Please

by Chri » Tue, 13 Aug 1996 04:00:00

I have been playing Grand Prix 2 for a little more than a week now,
and I still cannot even place in any of the tracks in either
Championship, non-Championship, or Quickrace.  I don't understand how
I can be so bad...My personal configuration right now has my joystick
set up for steering, keys 'A' and 'Z' for acceleration, Steering Help
off, low sensitivity at 45%, and Max Lock at 20%.   I substituted my
name for someone with the name Gerhiger (something like that) in the
Ferrari team and I usually do pretty well in races in terms of taking
corners and passing other racers.  However, it seems I have trouble
passing the number nine racer in each race.  I always play with
Auto-Brake, Gear, and Indestructible ON.  This is why I cannot figure
it out.  Even with these driving aids on, and being at Rookie racing
level, I still cannot seem to place in the top nine or ten racers.
Can anyone give me some hints as to what I could be doing wrong and
also what I should do to get better?  Thanks!

As a start: turn steering help on!
Get to know the circuit and when you're getting better, turn off all the other
helps (autobrake etc.). If you then got it all under control you might be
ready for driving without steering help (you'll need a good joystick).

Championship, non-Championship, or Quickrace.  I don't understand how

That's your problem, playing with autobrake  ON keeps you on the track
but slows you down terribly. If you go off the racing line by a small
margin, the computer brakes and slows you down. Kill the auto-brake
your times should improve.

Have fun

Well, I only got gp2 3 days ago, and I play it with a CH FlightStick
Pro. I am not racing in any track yet, just practicing, trying to get my
times down.
Here is what you SHOULD do yo play GP2 with a joystick.
IMPORTANT:  Put all "low sensitivities" on 100% (THATS RIGHT 100%)
That will make sure that it will be alot harder for you to overreact.
(Spin out).
IMPORTANT:  Use the joysticks UP &DOWN movement for
acceleration/braking.
Use automatic gear changing at first.
When you get accustomed to the track you want to race on, try using
manual shifting. (I havent tried that yet)
And for god sakes, turn OFF steering help, thats for wussies!
It will take you a few days to get accustomed to the above
configuration, but it WILL be worth it!
My fastest lap at Hungary with NO PEDALS AND NO WHEEL just joystick,
is 1:23:769  !!
Thats, from what I've heard in this newsgroup, is VERY fast.
BTW, I play at ACE level , with NO aids except auto gear changing .

Hey man. When I started I turned off things like Steering help and Opposite
Lock, and all that good stuff. From the***pit I turn on The suggested
line, Auto gears, Indestructible, and suggested gear. I do this only when I
go to a new track which I know nothing about, once I learn it, I turn all
help off. Now, to the comment on the joystick. I never liked using
joysticks for a driving sim, but I rather prefer a T2. I will probably buy
Thrustmasters upcoming wheel called the GP1 (or something like that)

Good luck.  ;-)

Thanks for the advice.  I have a Thrustmaster FCS Mark II-is this good
for a driving sim?
