Interesting. For me fsaa is the most amazing advance in hardware in
years. I happily lose fps for the improved image quality, which adds
greatly to the immersion IMO.

what i find totally gobsmacking is that people get faster and faster graphic
cards every year but still cant be satisfied.

every year since invention people have said they cant wait until they can
use AA and Anis on max.

well the obvious conclusion is that it will never ever be used.

crazy...

Not to mention that with a decent gfx card, you're not giving up all
that much speed in the first place, at least not speed that you'll
notice that much

I play most genres of PC games, and it is probably driving games where
I see the benefits of FSAA the most. The tracks in most games have
chain link fencing around them, and I absolutely hate the shimmering
effect those produce without FSAA. As you say it adds a lot to the
immersion.

> How does it add to the immersion?

I find jaggy pixels on small objects (perhaps cars ahead in this case) a
real distraction. Worse though is the texture shimmering on things like
fences, and decent antialiasing can banish this altogether. Nvidia
suck at it, ATI nearly manage it, and 3dfx did a better job but it
didn't help them much, sadly.... probably because people like me waited
until the cards were 99ukp instead of 250!

That's because sometimes Pierre is right. Just keep him off politics and
gun legislation and he can be a disturbingly decent human being.... when
he *wants* to be. I think that's the critical part :-)

Maybe my eyesight's better than yours? ;-) Seriously, I understand what
you're saying, and maybe this is another indicator of what a rubbish
driver I am. But for me good fsaa adds to the experience in any ***
environment, especially flight sims, which is all that matters.

I'm not *entirely* sure that's something to be proud of, but everyone
should have a hobby I suppose.
