I buy dozens of games each year and until recently was a manager of five
very large PC stores. In all of the years I have been enjoying PC games
I have only ever encountered three that caused me to think I have been
well and truly "duped", "ripped off", "scamed" or simply cheated out of
hard earned cash. Ouland was the first. Remember how many patches it
took for the game just to do the things it claimed on the box? Outpost
from Sierra was another. Months of waiting for a patch to enable crucial
functions of the game. Unfortunately Microsoft's CART Precision Racing
is the third.
How can any company deliberately market a game that is so full of bugs
and design flaws (or are they undocumented features?) that it is totally
unplayable and nowhere meets the claims it makes on the products box?
I am sure most people have already read other proples complaints about
this sub standard product but here are mine. Anybody contemplating
purchasing, or even stocking this waste of retail space, take note...
1) No Yellow flags! Yep, that certainly helps you, "Push the Limits of
Racing Reality".
2) 9-12 Frames per second with only average graphics during a race with
the full field. This is on a 233MMX PC with both a Diamond 3D and VIPER
V330 installed. I know its not my PC at fault because I have no trouble
achieving 25FPS or greater in all other 640x480x16 bit games that use
DirectX and all benchmarks ran show my systems graphics thoughtput to be
well above average in both 2D and 3D.
3) "Exacting artificial intelligence" that continually allows cars to
ram up my cars backside as if they couldn't see it..
4) Dozens of other minor "glitches" during gameplay such as the rev
limiter coming on for a whole lap at Michigan etc.
I payed hard earned money for this trash. I do not like being used as a
BETA tester by Microsoft. I don't care if the patch fixes some of these
problems. I payed for a product that is inferior in just about every
aspect to similar games released in the last month and which doesn't
meet the claims Microsoft makes in its advertising or on the products
box. It was not ready for release and Microsoft should hang it's head in
shame for deliberately rushing an unfinished product onto the market for
the sake of a few extra XMAS sales. I intend to return the product to
Microsoft. No wonder other people pirate games. It only costs them $2 to
find out how bad a product like CPR is!
I thank god I am no longer in the PC retail business. I would hate to
see how many unsatisfied customers demand a refund on this load of
garbage.
I feel sorry for the young kids who recieve this junk as a XMAS present.
It would be like getting a jigsaw puzzle with half the pieces missing
but a promise that the other bits will arrive sometime or other.
P.S. I know at least two local retailers who said they will withdraw the
product from the shelf due to the level of customer complaints.
