GPL FAQ

by Goy Larse » Fri, 16 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Following the requests for technical FAQs, we're trying to do something
about it, starting with GPL and taking Allison Hines FAQ as an example
and working from that, other sims will follow

But, we need questions, so if you have anything you'd like to see in
that FAQ, don't need to be a question you need answered, could be that
you have an answer and need a question for it :-), please drop by and
use the link on the front page, or e-mail me directly with GPL FAQ in
the header

Your a good man Goy, No matter what everyone else says! ;)

I'll be honest, I have a hard time keeping track of all the updates and
add-ons for GPL.  Its amazing how great a job the community does to keep
improving this sim.

Thats another thing I like about the West Bros and WSC, they seem to be
making it extremely add-on friendly.  I think the developers should realize
this keeps the sim 'fresh' and can sell more copies in the long run.

No need to tell me that, I know all this, remember ....:-), but I can't
take the credit for it, Jan Kohl, as usual :-), wanted "The Pits" to do
something about it when he saw the requests for FAQ's here on r.a.s.,
and I volunteered to do the legwork on it, I was amazed when I found out
about me volunteering for something like this, must be the "Captain
Morgan" effect :-)

I'm amazed too, I've even had people volunteering for coming up with
answers, people I've never even seen posting to r.a.s., how's that for
community spirit ?

I totally agree, WSC looks very promising, not only from a GFX and
physics POV, but also for expandability, and they will actually be
encouraging people to "hack" their sim, unlike others that are over
protective about their stuff....

Well thanks to Jan and The Pits then too ;)

If we at PowerSims.com can be of any help at all Goy, just let us know.
(But wait until after the 27th as I will be gone on vacation from the 17th
until then! <G>)

Sorry, that's not part of what we're doing, but I'm sure Michael Carver
still has the FAQ he used to post that concerns this NG specifically

GPL FAQ

Absolutely.  To be honest, I was pretty disappointed with sim racing the
last 6 to 9 months because of the ***we have for N3 on WON.  So I had
been spending more of my '*** time' playing Rogue Spear than Sim Racing.
At least my personal fun, non-evaluating for powersims, '***' time. <G>

Over the last few weeks Ive been getting more and more back into GPL and my
love for the sim has been renewed. (Not that I was ever bored or tired with
it, just a short breather I guess).

Hey, we're neck deep in this stuff every day, no wonder we get burned
out every now and then, wonder how guys like David Noonan, Jan Kohl and
others manage

Questions?  I gots Questions!  Why?  Howcome?  Whatfor?  Where?
Do unladen European Swallows search out coconuts?   If my favorite color
isn't blue can I still cross the Bridge of Death?  Why is EVERYONE in
the TPTCC 5 seconds a lap faster than me?  Why do perfectly sound
thinking GPL users sell their 3dfx card and buy a Nvidia product?  Why
do they come on here and ask for help AFTER buying the other card?
Where is it written that an ONLINE racer will exit the pits and then
IMMEADIATELY drive up into the racing groove?  Why does every sim
released promise realism and then rarely deliver it?  Why can't I take
an Aim-9 sidewinder from my Falcon Sim and put in on my Falcon Aussie
racer?  Are these the kinds of questions you wanted?

GPL FAQ

You drive a Dodge

-Why do perfectly sound thinking GPL users sell their 3dfx card and buy
a Nvidia product?

Why do anyone buy NVidia products
(I know this isn't an answer, but I don't think there is one)

-Why do they come on here and ask for help AFTER buying the other card?

See above

-Where is it written that an ONLINE racer will exit the pits and then
IMMEDIATELY drive up into the racing groove?

In the WON FAQ ?

-Why does every sim released promise realism and then rarely deliver
it?

They live in an alternate reality and in their reality it *is* the
ultimate realism

-Why can't I take an Aim-9 sidewinder from my Falcon Sim and put in on
my Falcon Aussie racer?

You need to drive the Holden to this, the Falcons are to AussieV8's what
Dodge are to super tourers...

-Are these the kinds of questions you wanted?

Yes
