Well, after reading all the Hoopla about GPL in this newsgroup, went
home and braved the 1 hour download to get it. Ran the install, saw it
needed DirectX 5. Don't like DirectX 5. Cannot run Nascar2 in Win95 with
DirectX 5 and new 3D Blaster drivers and bios that support DirectX 5.
But.....this must be some kind of sim to get this much attention, this
fast. Guess I install DirectX5 and find out for myself. If there is any
fix for my Nascar2 problem, please let me know.

Well,

did you install the patches out for Nascar 2? Apart from your 3D Blaster,
I'm using the same gear.

Mr. Mak has complained so intensely about GPL that I've gotten the
impression he has a hidden agenda.  While it's not unusual to make known
our feelings regarding new games whether they be sims or arcade, (each of
us have done this).  But to constantly continue to bombard us with his
thoughts, as if his opinion is the only one that counts, is becoming
tiresome.

Mr. Mak has said that the cars should not require sliding around the turns
and*** out the tail to make the good times, perhaps that's true.  I've
achieved some good times with the demo by using an approach of moderate
braking and moderate use of the throttle.  Without any way to change the
setup, I feel a bit disadvantaged, but I expect the full game to have the
ability to alter the car setups.

I'm watching the Argentine Grand Prix and to my amazement, Michael
Schumacher leads in his Ferrari, and he's*** out the tail at nearly
every corner.  He's literally sliding the car through the turns, and this
is in a modern F1 car with the new extra wide, only slightly grooved,
Goodyears.

I'm old enough to remember the Grand Prix races of the 60's and 70's, and I
can remember more than a few cars losing it on the turns.  I guess my point
is, I'm sure that every person who reads this NG is aware of Mr. Mak's
feelings toward GPL.  He's based his deeply felt feelings based upon a
pre-alpha demo that doesn't allow one to alter the setups on the cars.
Personally, I have enjoyed the opportunity to practice the demo, and while
there are some alterations I'd like to see, I will wait until the full
version is released before making a final determination.

Testify Brother!  What is the mysterious Mr. Mak up to anyway? I've never seen
such venom spewed over a DEMO! Personally, I am thrilled with the little Easter
Present from Papy.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

Hmmm...  I don't know why you can't get Nascar2 to work with DirectX 5
installed.  I don't think the reason I can is because I am using a
Thrustmaster ACM card, but there maybe a chance that your soundcard's
game port isn't setup properly after the DirectX 5 install.  To the best
of my knowledge, NASCAR2 doesn't even look at any of the Win95 joystick
controller crap.  It polls the port directly and by-passes any of the
DirectX stuff.  Have you tried toggling the "Poll with interrupts
enabled" box in the Advanced Game Controller setup?  Check the resources
of your game port and make sure that it is using I/O 201-201.

I doubt he has a hidden agenda. He uses GP2 with opposite lock help so
what could you expect. He's simply hopeless!
