: Well, I 've stayed away from commenting on all the "Daytona patch"
: activity as much as possible. However, I would like to say 2 things
: about Eric's posting here.
: 1) "This piracy could jepordize(SP?) The release of the Official
: Daytona track": BINGO! THANK-YOU!!! YOU'RE RIGHT!!!! All the hacks
: that people are trying to pass off as Daytona will SERIOUSLY
: jeopardize our ability to get the license to the Daytona tack. PLEASE
: don't do it. Let me put this another way, if people want to keep
: passing off hacked versions of Talladega posing as Daytona, that's all
: you'll ever be able to get with the Daytona name on it. If you want
: any shot at getting the real thing, STOP THE HACKS!
: 2) The fact that we did the Daytona track for the Daytona USA theme
: park IN NO WAY should be taken that we are any further along in
: getting Daytona for NASCAR 2. Sega has the exclusive license until
: April '97. We can not get it before that, and it is still unknown if
: we will get it after that. Re-enfrocing point #1 above, however... if
: you want to guananty that we WON'T get it, keep passing around the
: hacked Talladega patches.
Well, one of the reasons I wouldn't even care to see a "hacked" version
of Daytona is that I drive in SVGA mode and have everything turned off
except Smoke/Dirt Lines/SkidMarks ON and cars to Auto. I wouldn't even
get the pleasure of seeing "Daytona tm" on the walls. As it is I can
drive any track I want and in my little mind's eye "hack" it into
Daytona. Pretty cheap and easy way to pull off the infamous Daytona
patch/hack ;-)
Now, I am pretty sure Ed & the rest of Papyrus folks won't want to see
the following, but keep in mind a "little day-dreaming" doesn't hurt.
This is just something to put into our pipes and smoke -- You know
purely a "pipe-dream"....
Last year we all dreamed that after hearing that Sega's exclusive rights
to Daytona expired 12/31/95 that we would be "driving" Daytona, just
like the King did this past week. Well that dream never came true
(except for the lucky folks at Daytona USA).
With NASCAR2 due out in November'ish '96 and the NRL to follow sometime
after that in 1997... I do find it strange that the license wasn't
drawn up for another year, but for 16 months. Could it be that there
were plans to leave the door open for Daytona to be available for NRL?
Disclaimer: Pipe-dreaming is illegal in most of the States, and of
course you must be 18 years of age or older to even do it in most areas
of the world. Besides, Papyrus's Surgeon General strongly believes
pipe-dreaming could do serious harm to the health and longevity of
simulated racing. All things in moderation.
However, I hold to Weir's "Too much of everything is just enough".
