Even if you are a good driver, it's hard to compete in online racing,
because there are all these people that have time to be racing 4 hours each
day, and they know each track better then the roads from their home to work.

Wouldn't it be great if the next multiplayer open road sim was able to
generate a new track for each race?

Just a tought.

Yeah we had a couple of talks during all those years in r.a.s. about random
terrain generator.  I personally think the technology today is well enough
acceptable for that.  Just look at the almost "fractalesque" terrain of
Tribes 2, Operation Flashpoint or Motocross Madness.

It would more be for creating a real-life environment for racing/driving
then an enclosed circuit.  Events like off-road racing (Baja 1000) or long
Rallies could be simulated (Paris-Dakar).

Or else, perhaps create a big virtual world that has 100km x 100km, for a
start  World War II Online has some pretty good terrain modelling even if it
means limited graphics and so.  It still fits on a CD-Rom.

I think that'd be pretty cool, although there would probably be a lot more
luck involved than skill at that point...  Hmm...  That sounds kind of fun,
actually :0)

Luck? Is there a lot of luck involved when you drive your real car on a road
you have never been before?
I know what you mean. Just couldn't resist. :)
Players had to be careful if they wanted to finish at all.
