GAS OUT Friday April 30th

by Mike Zamaroc » Sun, 04 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Folks, this is kinda what I have been hoping for! So I HOPE we all can do
this together! Perhaps THEN the oil companies won't treat us like SHEEP!

Kinda weird getting this tonight! Cause just last night the old movie
"NETWORK" was on. Remember when Albert Finney wanted folks to open their
windows and shout "I'm MAD as hell, and I'm NOT going to take it any
more!!!" Well, this IS FOR REAL, and it is OUR time to say what we feel!

But PLEASE, do NOT select "RESPOND TO ALL" if you want to add anything. This
should be only go to you all once.

So how many cents do you pay??
In Norway we also produce lots of oil. We pay over a buck for
a LITRE! That's $ 1.25 per **Litre**. Go figure the Gallon price....

Don't make me laugh p-e-r-l-e-a-s-e.... Come to the Sunny UK where petrol,
gasoline or whatever you want to call it costs about $1.50 per litre. How
would you spoilt brats fancy paying about $8.50  per gallon with your gas
guzzlers?

GAS OUT Friday April 30th

by Wosc » Sun, 04 Apr 1999 04:00:00

You know, the gas really costs about $.25 or something cheap like that, but
then you must add on tax and the gas stations wanting to make a profit and
that's how you get these high prices.  Most of the time, the price changes
are due to competition.  This gas station lowers their price so all of the
companies around them lower it.  Or even better for them, the gas companies
get together in the area and raise prices up together and everyone still has
to buy it expensive.  It's a pretty rotten system.  Why can't we just have a
system of buy it at cost instead of having to make this profit and give some
to the government.

Oh well, maybe I'm wrong about everything.  All I know is that there has got
to be a better system.

GAS OUT Friday April 30th

by bo » Sun, 04 Apr 1999 04:00:00

This whole idea is pretty ridiculous.  Right now both wholesale and
retail oil prices are nearly as low as they've ever been in adjusted
terms.  Gas today costs a smaller fraction of your paycheck than it
ever has.  Crude prices are approaching $10 a barrel, less than half
of it's peak in the '70s.  OPEC members have shown a great willingness
to undermine their stated aims by overselling their quotas since the
early '70s.  So they are unlikely to achieve any significant rise in
crude prices.  If you do manage to drive crude prices much lower than
they are, the resulting financial crisis and ensuing instability in
the mideast will be far more expensive politically and financially
than just paying for gas.   As someone else noted, you're paying
mostly taxes.  The actual cost of the gas really can't go down much.
So, in cinclusion, quit whining or buy an electric car.  Or better yet
find a cheap way to mass-produce fuel cells.

Tax, profiteers or company scams....I'm not going to get into a flame here
pal. Call it what you will but that is the actual PRICE we pay, regardless
of where the money goes. I was just stating that in comparison, you guys
have got it easy.

BTW. Our tax rate on gas is 78 pence in the pound. Pretty***poor for a
country that is self sufficient in energy !!

To see what taxes can do to gas prices, all you folks in the U.S. have
to do is drive north. In Canada we have the same fluctuating gas
prices, with more taxes heaped on top. I live just outside of Toronto,
and even with the horrendous exchange rate between the U.S. and
Canadian dollar these days, I can still realize a substantial saving
when I buy gas in the U.S. (I'm often there, since it's about 100 km
to beautful Buffalo :) from here. (And no, I don't drive there to fill
up my tank).

Don't get me wrong but if gasoline in the United States is .98 cents a
gallon or roughly 25 cents a liter, who are you paying such a high price in
the UK.  It cannot cost any more to manufacture gasoline in the USA as the
UK.  It must be your government screwing you folks over, kinda like what
the USA is doing to the cigarette manufactures with the new sin taxes.

So its not the fact we are spoiled I think its the fact we are not getting
screwed by our government on gas taxes as badly as you are.  Infact almost
half the price of gasoline in the USA is taxes, so if you are paying around
6 bucks a gallon you government is really getting to you since the last
time I was buying fuel for an offroad application gasoline I found out here
in the USA the road taxes were around 50 cents a gallon.

Man your ***must hurt.

Sorry to be rude.

GAS OUT Friday April 30th

Ex factory price of 1 l gasoline is 5Bf (0.13 US$), retail price
(Unleaded) at the pump  in Belgium is 35Bf (0.92 US$)

On 1 litre of fuel there is 25 fr taxes and VAT.

Why do you think that US cars are not so popular in Europe? A part from
their relative lack of roadholding, their big engine (here to the tax man
comes looking , a Dodge Viper will set you on yearly base aobut 100.000 bf,
2700 US$ back) the fuel bill becomes astromonic.

O yeah, a Dodge Viper will also take a " 1 time road tax" of 200.000 fr (
5.400 US$) when bought

Always nice to see legallissed theft....

Actually the way i see it...the oil compamnies are screwing the governments,
the governments are screwing the gas stations, and therefore in order to make
some profit they charge the consumer more than that.  So essentially it starts
with the oil companies and theyre not gonna change (they hiked up prices in the
70s and never looked back) so i guess we are just gonna have to live with it.

I dont so much mind it cause here in Texas gas is cheap cause of the low
import cost (actually no import cost)...around $0.90 a gallon for 87 octane.
If you want Premium (93+) its about $1.09 a gallon.  I went to Canada last
summer and i can see the huge difference in gas prices.  It was like $0.50 a
litre or something like that.
Just my .02 worth...

GAS OUT Friday April 30th

Prices have risen here lately in Greenville, SC to 92 cents.  They were as
low as 68 cents recently!  I read an article in the paper today about high
prices in California; $1.49 to $1.61 for regular unleaded! WTF?
Although gas is cheap here in SC, and always has been, I still think the
"Gas Out" is a good idea.
