GPL - Rendition board hell continues.... HELP

by ddjhenri » Wed, 14 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Well I have used the DSII for over a year without any
of those symptoms.  The board is flakey tho...almost
every week I have to reboot two or three times to
reset my video settings, ususally after playing certain
games,   It was EXTREMELY difficult to get it running
with ICR2.  or rather getting ICR2 to run with the V2100
chipset.    For all things Rendition, I suggest a trip to
www.bjorn3d.com , if he still has the site up.  It has many
utilities for the rendition boards.  Possibly try something
like tweekUI that lets you assign your 3d functions to a
specific card,  You may have some older drivers mucking
things up.  Good luck

What the hell is wrong with this damn Diamond Stealth II card !!!  I can't
get GPL to run !!  It just goes to a blank screen, then 2 seconds later
comes back to windows.  No error messages, no nothin.

I DEFINATELY installed it to work with the rendition board, and I confirmed
it by checking the app.ini file.

If I reinstall as software only.... it works, but it sucks, as this is only
a 200 mhz pentium.

All other games work OK, except they are direct3D, not rendition direct.

Is there some sort of utility out there that I can run to confirm everything
is OK to run verite direct games ???

I am just stymied.  I have reinstalled drivers, gotten new drivers,
reinstalled old ones from original diamond CD, reinstall directX,
EVERYTHING.......

I am getting ready to smash this board and dump $129 into a Voodoo3 2000
board.....

Thats what I would do. Voodoo3 is great with GPL, and every other game I've
tested.

I was using a DSII up to about 2 months ago.   When I exited sometimes my screen
was whacky as well.   Instead of rebooting,  I just set the resolution to
something different and then back again.  PITA but it beats rebooting ;)

Other than that,  the DSII was a great little card for the $14.95 I paid for it

I just went from the 4mb Stealth to the 8mb Thriller 3d.   The Thriller
has been just as stable as the Stealth and maybe a bit better with
non-*** applications as well.  I just prefer Rendition to 3dfx in GPL
and N2.

I know its outdated,  but I still run N2 on TEN and I will get a new
card in a few months when prices continue to drop and N3 is released =)

For now... The Thriller 8mb pushes GPL just fine at 800X600 with fps
pegged at 36fps 95% of the time.

If you're runnning Win98, you need to get the drivers from Diamond's site -
the ones on the CD dont work too well with it.
