Whilst using Williams as my team I have managed to get a fairly decent
level of sponsorship by the following

1) Devoting 70-80% of the commercial department to Sponsors

2) On the mercandise page purchasing all the loss leaders. EG the
Jacket, T-Shirts, pennants etc

3) Employing more staff for the commercial departement

4) This last one probably isn't best but devote 100% of the time spent
on sponsorships to one company, usually the one suggeested.

Hope this is of some help

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had managed to get a decent level of sponsorship
in their games. I seem to be losing money at an alarming rate and am finding
it hard to get many (any) sponsors.

What tactics for your commercial staff do people use?

Cheers,

Ant.

I gave up with the big sponsers, and went for the ones at the end
of the list, they don't cough up so much money but its
easier to get them interested.

100% on sponsers until you've some money coming in,
also get your name on a few things T-shirts etc.

Then go to maybe 75%/25% and try to get some income
from merchantising, I've got to break even now,
ie. I cover the costs of each GP.

PS. Winning races helps !!!

This seems to be the least of my problems i have over 60 million after
3-4 seasons. All you need is to be arround the 6-8 best team and getting
2 million a race is not difficult.

What i did was to hire about 12 assistents the idea been to target 10
firms using one person per team and the other two on merchandising.
Now all this may depend on the team that you have choosen to be, i
acchieved this by starting from quick start has Minardi and also has sauber.

What i would recommend you do is to start easy, and use benetton, if you
run the team correctly and steal all of your technology and advancements
you should be able to win the first seasons driver's championship. Once
you get fed up with this you should play has jordan who you should be
able to get winning championships within 2-3 seasons. Then once you have
done this then start playing has somebody like minardi or sauber were it
gets more difficult and early results get more critical.

i employ 20-30 mechanics and about 20-50 engineers depending on how many
new parts i wish to make.

I hope this helps

I did okay with a 25% merchandising and 75% sponsorship split. I then
concentrated 100% of the time on the top company. I also did the leather
jackets and t-shirts as a loss leader. After about 3 races I got a second
place finish and the sponsor loved me and bought up several spots on my
car (its my feeling that if you get a big sponsor sell all of your best
slots since its a *** to stay on top of the field.) The sponsor gave me
a deal of 2.4 mil or so for 4 races on each top spot and I sold him both
helmet and the 1 or 2 body so I was getting about 2 mil a race in
sponsorships.

I contracted Mauro Sabbatini for my Benneton team and gave him a
salary of 300.00. His number of assistants is the default 15.
The commercial department spends 100% on liasing possible sponsors.
I take one potential sponsor where I allocate 100% of the time (
occasionally I locate a certain % to a sponsor where the next race
will be kept ).

With these settings I have contracts that are continously between the
$5.000.000 and $10.000.000. ( total ) This is the best that I obtained
untill now.
In the 13 races that I finished from this year, the income of sponsors
was $25.000.000.

Good luck,
Olaf.

This is really a good question !

I dont know if this is the way to go but :

I play Sauber (winner level), in my 1. season I could not seem to
attract sponsors until ven though I won 3 out of 6 races. Then I
found out that a good thing is to focus on a sponsor in the
country that the next race is held in. Not the race you are about
to enter, but the next one. And voila !

If you are not so victorious, try the less wealthy sponsors.

Lots of money went my way. This may sound very obvious, but it
took a while for me to figure out <g>.

Greetings

Lars

some decent sponsorship deals. In fact at the and of the championship
I even had some company's asking me if the could put their name on
my car. With the last 3 races I am earning about 1/2 milion buks.
So with the Williams team it is quite easy.

The trick is to hire a very good Commercial manager & a big support
crew.  On the 2nd year as manager of the Ferrari team I was making
2.9million/race in sponsorship deals & clearing over 1million/race
after all expenses & I wasn't even doing that good in the actual races
- 4th overall in the championship.  Another thing that I have seen, is
that no matter how much time you spend on any one sponsor, they still
will only purchase a max of 5 spots - so don't blow it all on one
sponsor, set the major sponsor at about 50% & spread the rest around
w/ the groups w/ less money to spend - it pays in the longer run.
