Help me decide: F1C or GP4

by Brookli » Fri, 23 Apr 2004 09:57:11

I finally upgraded my ancient PC and can play any sim.

I've grown to love my old Grand Prix 3 and just downloaded the (older)
F1 2002 demo and unfortunately wasn't that impressed.

Is the F1 Challenge that much better than the F1 2002 demo?  Is there
anybody who likes GP4 better.

Thanks

Depends what you're looking for.

If you're after a challenging and rewarding driving model get F1C.  If
you're after something that recreates the atmosphere of a GP weekend get
GP4.

F1c is better than 2k2 in almost all respects.  GP4 has several
limitations compared to GP3.  With GP3 you have hundreds of available addon
tracks plus several mods.  GP4 has NO addon tracks and only a couple of
mods.  GP4 has NO online abilities.  F1c, while not GPL or Nr2k3, is vastly
superior to GP4 lan only mulitplayer.  If you are used to GP3, then I
suspect GP4 will 'feel' better.  But if you want dozens of mods and tons of
addon tracks, the F1c is the choice.  However, many users have found it
very difficult finding F1c..out of print and out of stock at most
retailors.  I had to find GP4 on ebay.  Heck, since both can be had used
for 10bucks, if you can find them, why not get both?

F1C it would be for me, not necessarily because of the sole F1 aspect
of the game, but the countless mods and tracks that have been provided
by the community.

Cheers,

I'll check the situation over here if I get the chance.

There is another issue with F1C in that it might take some manual editing of
files to get it to work properly with your configuration. If you're able to
take that hurdle, however, it's miles better than GP4 in the driving feel
department. We're talking different planets here.

i would get f1 challenge for the mods alone. might as well get both
though. they're pretty cheap now if you can find them, i saw gp4 for $5
at electronics boutique recently.
