New video? problem with gpl HELP!

by badg » Sat, 11 Dec 1999 04:00:00

First the history:  I'm running a PII 400, 128 meg, 2 diamond monsters
in SLI, and sound blaster 16 bit.

After installing the 3d cards over a year ago I was able to run
1024x768 with most of the goodies turned on, 19 ai cars and still get
36 fps by the first turn.

Now the problem:
I did not use gpl for months and have installed/removed numerous
programs.  When I ran gpl the next time, my frame rate has gone to
hell.  I have to reduce res to 800x??? and turn most eye candy off to
get 36 fps.

I have since downloaded the gpl 1.2 patch...  do difference in frame
rate.

downloaded new video driver from diamond listed below

FxMemMap VxD Version:   4.10.01.0207
WinGlide 2.x Driver Version:    2.54
WinGlide 3.x Driver Version:    3.03.00.0667
Direct3D Driver Version:        4.10.01.0207
Direct3D 32-bit DLL Version:    4.10.01.0207
Direct3D 16-bit DLL Version:    4.10.01.0207

still no difference in frame rate.

Now to make matters worse I'm getting mouse trails at the bottom of
the menu and the game locks when I try to change drivers.

I have also removed and reinstalled the game to no avail,  Please
help,  Bob Agee

OK, I stopped the mouse trails and crashes by changing the diamond
drivers to the drivers  below:

FxMemMap VxD Version:   4.11.01.0015
WinGlide 2.x Driver Version:    2.56.00.0456
DosGlide 2.x Driver Version:    2.56.00.0456
WinGlide 3.x Driver Version:    3.03.00.0667
Direct3D Driver Version:        4.11.01.0441-2.18
Direct3D 32-bit DLL Version:    4.11.01.0441-2.18
Direct3D 16-bit DLL Version:    4.11.01.0441-2.18

but, my frame rate has not improved/changed.  I still have to run
800x6?? to get 36 fps.  Any help would be appreciated.  Bob Agee
