The one you used to post that message with will do it for you :-), can't
remember the specifics as I don't use OE myself, but I seem to remember
that you had to mark all messages for DL or something

Tried that, unfortunately all it did was give me a huge text file.  Normally
when I combine binaries in OE it gives me a binary attachment.  I don't
think it understands yEnc.

OE is rubbish for binaries!  Try this program http://xnews.newsguy.com/

I managed to get as far as combining, saving, and ydecoding the file.  Now I
have a bunch of rar files.  Winace just seems to want to decompress them
individually.  I assume there is some way of decompressing and combining
them?  Also, why the multiple formats?  Not trying to flame, I just don't
understand why it is necessary for me to go through so many steps to get
this thing working.

Well I figured out the yEnc part.  Now I guess I have to go get WinRAR too.
This is just annoying.  Despite the fact that I have XP which natively
supports zip format, I still have to have four other decoders/decompressors
to use files from the internet.  Don't get me wrong, I am grateful to Ped
Xing for uploading the files, I just wish people would stop inventing new
formats for no particular reason... <grumble> <grumble>

Not quite.  It is done to cut down on posting size, which helps
propagation and retention.  Usenet servers are being overloaded with
binaries so anything that can be done to cut down on size is a good
thing, in my opinion.

Of course, nobody is forcing you to download the files.  I didn't have to
go to the trouble of posting it and could have just kept the video for my
own use.  But I figured some in this group would enjoy it, so I decided
to share.  Since people want to complain about something that is freely
given, I will cease to do this sort of thing in the future.

Finally, I wasn't speaking to you, so your reply wasn't needed or wanted.

This is a good, free program: http://www.ultimatezip.com/

Just double-click the part01.rar and extract.

The procedure I followed for posting is pretty standard for those dealing
with large binaries in newsgroups.  I was not doing anything abnormal.  I
am sorry you find it too much trouble.

Why the multiple formats?  Posting one large avi in one message is a bad
idea for several reasons, one of which is that it makes is very likely
the whole thing won't come through.  Having it in chunks also enables the
use of parity files (SmartPAR).

I don't think that's really called for. This is an open newsgroup, you are
talking to everyone.

I couldn't get the thing to work either, and it's a shame, but there you go.
Thanks for trying, and for those more savvy than me I hope it's good, but
personally I don't usually use binary newsgroups much, and some instructions
in the first post (your original message here) might have helped.

I hope you continue to contribute to the community as it's always
appreciated by someone, but please bear in mind that not everyone online is
as clever as you ;-)

Can you host it somewhere?

Malc.

I'll reply to whoever I want, whenever I want, with whatever I want.

I won't argue much, except to say that yEncing files is just bad and
scam-like.
