If it keeps on dropping, almost sounds like a memory leak.

well if you upgraded to a gf3, guess that pretty much rules out the video

I'm running a Linksys router with Kerio behind it.  Kerio keeps those
troublesome programs that want to phone home at bay.

I knew what you meant, Dave.  It seems that I had some problems with TPF
before.  Maybe the new version is easier to use...

N2002 FPS Drop

It's happened to me twice.

FPS steady at 35 - 40FPS then about 45 min into the race FPS dropped to 12
for about 10 minutes, then went back up to about 18 - 20 and stayed there, I
didn't have any damage but 2 cars right in front of me did.  The FPS seem to
start dropping under a caution and then creep back up as I'm back to racing.
I have no clue as to why this is happening.

I upgraded my VIA 4n1 drivers and NVidia drivers between the 1st and 2nd
time this happened.  The second time the FPS only dropped to 20, but still
that's a 50% drop in FPS for no apparent reason.

Well, if it's dropping under caution, back up under racing, that could be
just do to the fact that under caution, everything's bunched up, and under
racing, it's not.

Kind of like, at the start of a race, your fps will be X, but once things
get spread out, it'll be X+, due to various things, one of them being draw
distance, etc.

N2002 FPS Drop

I agree with your statement, generally that is true, but this doesn't seem
to follow exactly on those lines.

I'd be riding under caution for at least a lap, probably 2 before the FPS
would drop.

When you have a bunch of cars in front of you on the restart and your FPS
drops that is expected and you will quickly see them return to normal, at
least I do.  But in these cases, sometimes I would only have 1 or two cars
in front of me in the corner or when everyone pits and I am the only one on
the track besides the pace car I would still get the same thing, very low
FPS for no apparent reason.  And the FPS don't come back to the normal 35 -
40 FPS ever, the highest it would go back to was 20FPS.

That is strange.  Here's something to try.  Reboot your pc.  Once at your
desktop, check your system resources.

Start a race.  Immediately when you see these problems, pause the race,
alt-tab out to your desktop, and check your resources again.

That may be a good place to start; you shouldn't see a HUGE difference.

N2002 FPS Drop

by Vintoo » Sun, 14 Apr 2002 05:17:19

This has been a problem I have noticed since N4. Running long races means a
loss in FPS over time so that towards the end it is a slide-show. I have a

too). I have turned off the replay and unchecked/lowered everything graphics
wise to the lowest settings at 640x480, as well as running with no damage.
What was the result? The exact same thing. In a 50% or longer race my FPS
drops. This just shouldn't happen. It seems like a memory leak to me. Maybe
everyone should just try a 70% race, mark down the FPS when they started and
then mark them again with one lap to go. I'd almost bet my life the FPS
would be about half for everyone.

Hmf.  In my case the frame rate is at its HIGHEST before the green
flag drops (~55), will hold steady for awhile, drop slowly to ~35, stay
there for a few laps, then plummet into single digits, with no 'second wind'
or anything...
If I could figure out how to assign more RAM to the game, it would
probably fix the problem; mem stats on exit typically shows it only using
27 megs out of a possible 512-I think the frame rate drop starts happening
when it hits that limit-anyone know what a "pool" or a "block" is? (from
the core.ini file)

non-league races so I can check out your suggestions.

I don't race offline either; try it in your pre-race practice, warmup
session when you can.  If you do however, might be best to reboot again
before racing; when N2002 first came out, I'd alt-tab quit a bit during
practice, etc., for various reasons.
Got some minor screen freezes, so figure I wouldn't alt-tab and see what
happened.  No alt-tab, no screen freezes..........memory/resources into the
equation again it seems.
