How does a newbie race N4 online?

by Brian Carabe » Fri, 23 Feb 2001 14:40:11

I've never raced online before, although I've consistently been driving
against the AI since N1. I haven't got a clue how to get started racing
online. Can anyone help me to get started?

Thanks

Brian

Have you tried clicking on the multiplayer and then going from there?

Yes, but when I click join nothing really happens. My log-in is successful,
but there seems to be no races to join.

If you have multiple ethernet cards, or multiple IP addresses, on that
PC you need the beta patch that will allow you to connect.  I don't have
the link for the patch available at the momemt.  If your using
cable/adsl, make sure the multiplayer/configure option has "Get IP
addresses another way" checked.  When logging into Sierra.com, make sure
the IP address you want to "connect via" is selected.

That should at least get you races showing up (even without the patch).

Jason.

Up near the top is a Sierra logo.  You have to click on that...
it says something like:  Race on Sierra.com
then you will get to choose between an east coast server(New York) or
a West Coast Server(San Jose)  Each of those have several different arenas
but the 1st on either will be the busiest with the most races.  Then you
have to choose a race and here it can be confusing as well.
1st you must choose a race that is not password protected.(look at the far
left, 2nd column.  If there is a + sign, it has a password)  Then if you are
new, you can't join races that have rankings that limit the beginers..so any
race that has 1-10 or 2 on up will be off limits until you get the necessary
experience. (look about the center of the line, just before the race
distance I think)

Hmm... I never seem to get to the point where I can choose servers. I'll try
again tonight and then report back precisely what happens. Thanks for the
advice.
