Well AMA is the American Motorcycle Association.  I dunno how to judge
the competition except to say the Americans have practically owned the
Trophee des Nations events since the early 80's.  So if you win in Motocross
in the States, you must be up there.  I think the next Trophee event is this
or next weekend, in California.  The Euro/World Champ will be there, so RC
may get a stiff challenge.  (of course it was an American<Ron Lechein> on a
125cc  who, in the early 80's,  beat the World Champ riding a 500cc bike
during one of these  des Nations competitions)  :)

Nicky Hayden is the current AMA superbike champ, Next year he will be
Rossi's team mate, so it should be very interesting.

Yeah, indeed very interesting. The AMA Motocross/Supercroos has definatley
some of the best riders in the world (for mx/sx anyway). The AMA superbikes,
i have a different perspective on after going over there late last year to
look for a ride... They have 5-10 top quality riders on even better bikes,
then they have a bunch of pretty bad for the level they are racing at riders
on real good bikes, then their privateers... i was pretty dissapointed.
Thats what makes some other domestic series better than in the states,
Privateers have a chance every now and then to do something that really
stands out

I think it will take him awhile to get comfortable on the World Circuit.
All the tracks will be new...all the cities etc will be new...and those
chicanes...I think Japan alone has more chicanes than all of
America....(even South America)    {suddenly remembering why he didn't like
sbk 2001} [actually I did like sbk 2001--I just fell over a-lot at those
damned chicanes] <did I mention I hate chicanes?>
